I am currently approaching five months in arrears to my mortgage holder and they are threatening legal action. I have been in my home for seven years and have always been very conscientious about paying my bills on time, however, this year has presented me with a number of challenges that have caused me to fall behind.
In January of 2018 the townhouse above mine had a water leak which came thru the ceiling and flooded my townhouse. I filed a claim with their homeowner’s insurance, but they still have not settled and I had to have the flood damage repaired in order to prevent mold. During the course of the repairs, my air conditioning unit died (it was an older unit). Living in South Florida, you cannot go without air conditioning not only because it is hot and humid, but again, it can create a mold issue. For this reason, I had to purchase a new unit that was over $3,000. Two weeks later I was driving in to work and was rear ended and my car was totaled. I did not have full car replacement value insurance, so the insurance only covered the current value of the car. This left me with a remaining balance of nearly $2000 which I was still liable for. In addition, in order to purchase a new vehicle, I was required to have a down payment of $1500. I would have been able to manage one of these issues, but they all hit me at once and I had to use the money for my mortgage to rectify the immediate issues so now I am $5000+ in arrears.
I have tried to obtain a loan, however, due to a recent divorce and the aftermath from that, my credit was damaged, so I was turned down. I have attempted to borrow from family, but they are not in a position to help.
I desperately want to save my home. I have a father who is 91 years old and my home is less than 5 minutes away from where he is. He relies on me for many things and I need to be close by. I just need assistance overcoming the obstacles I have been presented so that I can get back on track and remain current moving forward. $6000 could do that. The thought of losing everything over a temporary setback is unbearable to me. Thank you for your consideration.
