Thank you for taking time to read this. My name is Amy, I am 45 years old and we are a family of 6. I home school our children and my husband works his butt off to provide for us. Our house is falling apart. When we first moved in we were renting. After 1 year the landlord said we needed to move or we could buy it with him holding the loan. So we saved enough for the down payment and became homeowners. The house was build in 1950 and was vacant for 2 years before we moved in. We live in a rural area with a lot of crop land around us. The importance of that information will come in a moment. Over the past 4 years we have battled with the following:
Termites. We had to pay for pest control to come in aggressively to remove them from the home. They are gone now but they did their damage to some of the framework.
Squirrels. We had a squirrel nest in our roof due to vacancy of the house for 2 years prior to us moving in. They were well established and chewed up the insulation in the attic. We removed the nest and they have not been back.
Rats. After we got rid of the termites and squirrels, we started to have issues with rats. When they cut the fields around us (corn, barley, soy) the rats leave the fields and moved into our house. They chewed up the walls, the wiring in the fridge, and the vent system for the a/c. It took about 4 months but we finally go rid of them.
After the rats were gone field mice have moved in. They are our current pest problem and are proving to be more of a challenge than the rats were. They get into our pantry, our clothes, everything.
Aside from the pest problem, there is structural issues with the house. The wiring is old and outdated. Half the outlets in the walls do not work. There is water damage under the kitchen cabinets and we just replaced the bathroom floor due to years of water rot. There are wasp nests through-out the attic and in the walls that we have not been able to get rid of and they come out every spring with a vengeance. We owe $45,000 on the house still. Due to the landlord holding a lien to the title we cannot tear the house down until it is paid off. I want a safe environment for my kids, myself and my husband. We live paycheck to paycheck. We pay our bills but have no way to save up to repair the issues we have with this house.
Please, if you can donate anything it will help.
