I am asking for support for my goddaughter a 28-year-old single mother facing severe health challenges following a bout of COVID-19.
Up until 2021, P was a dedicated individual passionately pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse, while also contributing to society through her work in social care. Unfortunately, her life took a drastic turn when she contracted COVID-19 in September 2021. This encounter with the virus initiated a cascade of severe health conditions, each one targeting a different system within her body—from the blood and muscle systems to her kidneys, digestive tract, and reproductive system. Diagnosis are Atypical HUS (blood shredding disorder),
-Fibromyalgia, -Scleroderma, -diffuse systemic sclerosis, -Hiatus Hernia
-Chronic Kidney Disease, -Small bowel dysmotility, -Myosotis, and -Polycystic ovaries.
These combined illnesses have left P confined to a wheelchair, her mobility significantly hindered due to muscle stiffness. Her residence, a flat accessible only after climbing 13 flights of stairs, is now not just inappropriate but potentially hazardous. This precarious situation underscores the need for a comprehensive care plan, a crucial component of which is a safe and suitable living environment that can accommodate her medical needs and drastically altered mobility.
Hospital appointments and emergencies have become regular occurrences, and each one entails a hazardous journey up and down these stairs. Even the paramedics and hospital transport have refused to assist her due to the lack of a stairlift, leading to missed appointments and further risk to her health.
P’s 4-year-old son has borne witness to these struggles, a distressing sight for any child. Unfortunately, Ms. P’s ability to partake in her son’s activities and her mobility outside her home have been drastically restricted.
Despite ongoing efforts to bid for more suitable accommodation, P has been unsuccessful. The current situation is taking a toll on her mental health and the physical health of her family. Her mother, who is also her primary caregiver, has developed severe back pain from the constant lifting and is finding it challenging to balance care for her daughter, grandson, and her job.
In this crisis, the I family, who have been pillars of our spiritual community, desperately need external support. P’s upcoming stem implant procedure is an added concern, as she will need a safe and accessible living environment for her recovery.
As a friend of this resilient and loving family, I implore your support in purchasing a ground-floor flat for P as this would be a more suitable accommodation. It is not just a matter of comfort, but crucial for her safety, her family’s wellbeing, and her overall recovery. Thank you for your support.
