In 2005 I caught crytococcal menegitis and was misdiagnosed with pneumonia and eventually collapsed after 6 months trying to work and seeing doctors.. I was told I had AIDS and a complication in the form of a OI Opportunistic Infection. I am still here 5 years later but my health is slipping. I have an 8 yr old son and we survive on 15000 a year and live in an apartment.
Unforutunately I contracted AIDS and came close to dying. It was my fault but I did work 30 years and was an electrician and a US Marine in the 80s. I also was in the USNR in the late 90s. I think I may have come in contact with HIV in the late 90s to early 2000.
I have problems with light due to the menegitis so I usually stay indoors. I dont expect to make it another 3-4 years but I feel Ive tried to live with this disease as best I could. Ive lost everything, my career, my home my status as a journeyman electrician and any hopes and dreams I once had..I know its over for me but I just hope the best for my son in the future…He still loves me and knows Im sick and Im sure he feels sad.
When he was born I was working like crazy trying to get us a house which we did and times were good for a while until I got sick. I continue to survive but we need assistance, the social service sytem has been nonexistent to say the least for us in the town of Durham NC and all I hope for is a prayer to be answered at this point. If it isnt thats fine and I will try and survive as we have done. With that said, thanx for listening. Dave
