At the end of October 2018 we got some really exciting news – we are having a baby. This is our miracle baby, what most people call the rainbow baby after many miscarriages and reproductive trouble.
Fast forward to yesterday 31/1/2019 – everything had been going so well, we were saving and buying things for the new baby and basically managing our money pretty well. Then a blow to the employment side of everything, this company who has decided without evidence to reduce hours from 80+ per fortnight to under 16 hours due to circumstances undisclosed by the employer. there is no unfair dismissal case due to the fact they have been smart enough not to fully dismiss.
We now face the prospects of not being able to pay rent and bills next week, not to mention the upcoming specialist appointments for our 10 year old son who is facing liver failure. Add to this the ongoing costs of preparing for a new baby and providing basic necessities for a family we are struggling.
When I say we, I mean myself and my partner (boyfriend) we don’t currently live together due to financial burdens, we were saving and planning on becoming a family closer to the birth of the baby, However now it looks like we are not going to be able to be together financially or physically. My baby will come home to a fatherless house, and my boyfriend will have to leave his baby because we simply can not afford to be together unless one of us is working. I am trying to obtain employment but who wants to employ a pregnant lady, and after the baby is born it is not humane or practical for me to return to work within days of birth.
We don’t need much, just enough to get through the next few months so we can stay on our feet and not fall into a financial cesspool. We are not lazy bludgers, every day we apply for every job we can find that suits our skills and qualifications. So far our efforts have resulted in 1 interview and many many rejections.
