Needing help to get a Symbicort inhaler

Hello everyone,

My name is Sydney. I am 23 years old, I turn 24 next week coincidentally. Unfortunately, this past year has been anything but calm. Last year I endured a very scary lung infection, due to what doctors thought was apparently; “aspiration pneumonia” this lasted March-end of May. Finally, the nightmare was finally over, so I thought. I had stability for about 8 months. I had a wonderful paying job, I had a decent amount in savings, I had a plan a plan to move into my own apartment, I had a light for the future, I was excited,  I was hopeful for the first time in a long time. January hit and everything changed. My lung infection flared up again seemingly out of nowhere. The wheezing came back, constant breathlessness, my CO2 levels began crashing again, my cough and congestion totally flared up, the nightmare was back and I wasn’t sure what to do. I currently don’t have insurance, which I am currently trying to look into state insurance; I just moved to this state within the last year to get out of not the greatest living situation so I went to live with a close friend out of state, and the insurance I was on was from the previous state I was residing. In January I went to the ER with severe breathlessness and CO2 levels at 88%, I was terrified. I told them about what happened last year with my lung infection. They prescribed me Doxycycline and an albuterol inhaler. This unfortunately was a hefty bill without insurance, but it helped having savings in place as well as a stable paying job. – To my dismay, the Doxycycline helped whatsoever, my lungs continued to get worse. I had to apply for Unpaid Family Medical Leave at my job for a month, after that month of being out of work and using up my entire savings for both rent and medical expenses; appointments, prescriptions, as well as groceries, gas money; this all big time added up. I would ask for family support but unfortunately my family and I haven’t been on talking terms for over a year due to my family dealing with their own mental illnesses and internal issues that I needed to step away from for my own wellbeing and health. After the month of not being at work, and eager to get back to work, my health continued to decline and my job as well as myself, made the decision to let me go. I couldn’t work being so breathless, fatigued, swollen lungs, coughing, and in pain, especially amidst a pandemic. Since then, I have tried to seek assistance but have found little to none. I am having a CT scan done on Thursday and I’m not sure what that will cost. When I went in back in March my doctor expressed to me that she is worried my condition may be Induced Fibrosis. Hearing this has shaken me to my core. – My albuterol hasn’t been working as frequently and I could not afford my last inhaler so a friend actually gave me hers. – My doctor is pushing for me to get on Symbicort, which has a corticosteroid in it; it helps with severe asthma as well as COPD and Fibrosis. – Symbicort isn’t the cheapest inhaler unfortunately; I am not one to ask for assistance, but I am not sure what to do anymore. I’m scared for my life, the only thing I want for my birthday this year is my lungs and health to have relief, just some sort of relief. I cannot even express or begin to explain how scared I am. For my Symbicort inhaler 160mg/4.5mcg – Without insurance it comes out to roughly $346.83. This is for one inhaler. The one inhaler will last me one month. It is four puffs daily. Two in the morning and two at night. with 120 hits on one inhaler. My doctor recommends I get two for now to last me two months; but even one inhaler right now, just until I figure something out will be helpful. If someone is willing to help with the second, I would be beyond appreciative. The total amount for two inhalers would, $693.66. Again, even just the one inhaler for now would be huge currently. At this point, even a little money would be extremely helpful. I appreciate anyone who took the time to read this. I really hope my message reaches someone. I hope whomever reads this has a wonderful rest of your day, and again, thank you so much! xx
