My wife gave birth to our first child recently & because of an issue with her employer, her health insurance ended without her knowledge just days prior to giving birth. The hospital recognizes that she did nothing wrong, but after pleading her case for her, the insurance company still declined to pay. They were able to find us help but it still left us with about $5,000 to pay. They have given us an extension & I managed to make about $1,500 selling things. Things I loved, some irreplaceable family heirlooms, but my family comes first. Our savings has been virtually non-existent since we found out a baby was coming & right now it’s just my salary, the bulk of which is going to rent & utilities. About the only way we could save from my pay is by cutting out groceries. We’re just about $3,500 short of getting rid of this nightmare debt.
Getting this bill off our backs would be a great relief & it’s getting harder to hear her crying every now & then because she thinks it is her fault that this happened & that if she went back to work before she’s ready everything would be okay. She’s not ready & honestly paying for childcare for a newborn would create another mess, & I can’t take her away from our baby when they both need each other so much. I’d attach a more personal photo but my wife doesn’t know I’m doing this & I am trying to keep things as anonymous as possible, knowing this will probably hurt my chances here. I know a lot of people need help & I don’t profess that we’re any more deserving of generosity than others. If you can help, please do. Thank you.
