Cheryl has been denied life saving melanoma treatment. She has me and my younger brother Ben (9) who needs her. She is a single parent family. Cheryl was on the melanoma drug but a doctor took her off it, saying it wasn’t working. But an MRI later showed it had been working. Now Pharmac won’t fund the drug for her as she had previously been on it. She was supposed to have a year’s treatment!! She only had a few. This is stupid!!! Wrong!! Not fair!! So now Cheryl has to find $17,000 per infusion to save her life. This page has been setup for awhile now. We haven’t raised anywhere near enough. Please this Christmas find it in your hearts to give a little.
Cheryl is one of the strongest people I know, she loves her family and friends and has always been a giving, loving person. She’s also had a major fight on her hands. Almost ten years ago while pregnant with her youngest son she found out she had melanoma. She fought it and won against all the odds and Ben was her wee miracle. Not long after Cheryl celebrated five years in remission she found out that the cancer had returned. She has been battling doctors to get the treatment she needs. But Cheryl has too much to live for and refuses to stop fighting. Now that her treatment options have all been exhausted she needs the expensive Keytruda which blocks a protective mechanism on cancer cells, and allows the immune system to destroy those cancer cells. It targets the programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) receptor. It’s not funded for Cheryl. She’s always been a hard worker, devoting her life to caring for others, having cancer hasn’t held her back, she kept on working throughout all of her treatment, but now she is in too much pain, the melanoma bleeds everyday and is making it difficult for her to walk.
So we her friends and family want to help her and we need to raise as much money as we can in a very, very short space of time. Time is very precious to Cheryl.
Cheryl is a single Mum to me and my younger brother Ben. Ben is only nine years old and he really needs his Mum in his life. There is no other option for Cheryl, this is why she has been winning the fight for so long. She is a battler and refuses to give up. We refuse to let her down. So everyone please give a little to Cheryl.
Use of Funds:
Funds will be used for Cheryl’s very expensive melanoma treatment and for her to use as she needs, with her associated costs and living expenses. She may also want to use the funds to create some memories with her family.
