On August 12, 2019 I found out some devastating news. My mom has been diagnosed with Colon cancer. She is only 54 years old, hardworking, caring and loving. She is a good person and does not deserve this. For as long as I can remember my mom has always worked 2 to 3 jobs to support the family. She has always put the family first and her needs second. I feel like this is just a bad dream and I will just wake up and everything will be okay. Everyone says to be strong and positive but, how do you do that when all I feel is hurt and sadness that something bad might happen. I can’t picture my life without my mom.
My moms previous doctor was playing a guessing game on what was wrong with her, putting her on medication, and did not want to refer her to a different doctor. This could have been prevented. She has been having symptoms for a while and her doctor kept making excuses it was something else. The surgeon is not sure how long she has had the tumor in her colon, but will have to do a major surgery to find out and hoping it did not spread anywhere else.
My mom got her surgery from same day surgery on August 19, 2019. The surgeon said the cancer has been removed and surgery went well. She was told it is at stage 1 cancer but where the cancer was located was in a bad dangerous spot. That her cancer was in the walls/margin of her colon.
Her oncologist and surgeon said she needs to be highly monitored because its a possibility it could have spread. Her doctors said normally at stage 1, chemo therapy and radiation is not needed. But discovering that where her cancer was located my mom is at very high risk. So now she needs to see a radiologist on what they recommend to do in her case.
With all those testings and xrays that has been done lately. We’ve also found out she has a spot on her liver and gallstones. Our focus is the cancer first then her liver and gallstones will follow after. She is healing well but has been very weak on and off with fever. But as the days goes by so far getting better with a lot of rest, medications, and a change of her diet. She is trying to go strictly all organic which we all know that can be costly as well. She is doing whatever she can do to stay strong and fight this.
The Radiologist said he will not do treatment because he does not have enough information on where the cancer is, he suggested for her to get another surgery done, where they open her up from the stomach and wants the surgeon to look around and see what’s really going on. Her surgeon is going back and forth on what to do and schedule her to get a PET scan in November. From there he’ll decide when to schedule another surgery. My mom has been in and out of the hospital with a fever, feeling very weak and she is also having stomach problems.
Our family needs help with expenses for the hospital bill and for any treatment that the doctor recommends. Please keep our family in your prayers and pray that everything will be ok.
