Starting on January 15th, I began to have insomnia fueled complex hallucinations that developed into a much more serious mental health issue. I have had epilepsy since I was 5 years old after falling and fracturing my brain stem. I struggled with seizures daily until I was about 13 years old when they began to decrease in frequency. By the time I was into my late teens and early twenties, I was only having episodes maybe 2 to 3 times a month. However, in mid January, I had a seizure while I was in the shower and slipped, causing me to hit my head. The next morning is when my problems began. In a state of psychosis, I had conjured up complex scenarios such as religious figures attempting to cure my apartment, teenagers running around the complex with air-soft guns and face paint, and a PTA meeting where people were performing acrobatics in the parking lot at 11 in the evening. It all looked so real… I just thought I was having one hell of a crazy day until, late that evening, I pointed out one of hallucinations to my brother and he affirmed that there was nothing there. My heart sank into my stomach as I realized that my entire day was a self-created fiction.
I held off going to the doctor’s in hopes that it would all pass on it’s own. I went to work as I normally would and, unfortunately, the hallucinations continued while I was there as well. I talked with customer’s that didn’t exist and swore up and down to my manager that there were people outside trying to vandalize her car. Needless to say, I was told to take some time off of work to see a professional about what was going on and not to return until I had a physician’s clearance. What I had thought was just a temporary state of psychosis or mania, brought on by stress and lack of sleep, turned out to be a much more permanent ailment. I was diagnoses with Schizophrenia.
We’re now near the end of February and I still have not been cleared to return to work and have been on a regiment of anti-psychotics for the past 2 weeks. Without health insurance or income, I’m relying on State resources for medical care. This all comes with long wait list and still doesn’t manage to cover nearly everything.
I’m requesting financial aid, from anyone who can or wants, to cover medical cost as well as basic living. The most crucial expense is getting into to see a neurologist as soon as possible. The State run program has me covered on seeing a Psychologist, but unfortunately does not cover seeing a specialist for my epilepsy. It appears as though this situation needs to be tackled on two fronts. On one hand I have Schizophrenia, causing the delusions and paranoia, and on the other I have seizures, which are likely exasperating the issue.
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read everything and hear me out, I know it’s fairly long-winded. I just wanted to make sure I covered everything I thought was pertinent for making my case as to why I would need assistance. I’ll post a link to my website and my PayPal below as well as a few documents for proof.
