I moved from SYD to QLD with my mum in hopes for better job and life opportunities but 6 months after, about a month after my 20th birthday I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and had to start chemo straight away. My mum was forced to leave work to care for me so our household income immediately diminished, I was not eligible for any government payments related to medical conditions, so I am only on a small amount each fortnight as a job seeker, and my mum is on a carers allowance. After 6 months on chemo it came to the doctors attention that my cancer was “stubborn” and wasn’t reducing as quickly as it should have been, so it was decided that I should have a Bone Marrow/Stem Cell transplant. In around December 2019 we started looking for a donor, my siblings were tested and neither were a match, I continued on really tough chemo for months and we finally found a donor in March. Luckily he was from Australia as international donor transplants were postponed due to Covid-19. We began the process for the transplant, lots of appointments, tests, etc. At the end of June I was admitted and started my pre transplant chemo and radiation, then on the 2nd of May I received the donors cells (had the transplant). I was in hospital for a month afterwards recovering and dealing with the immediate side effects from the transplant. Since being discharged I have been back in hospital with multiple infections, rashes, other side effects from the transplant. It has now been over 4 months and I am still struggling with the recovery, very fatigued, sore, constant doctor visits and blood tests to monitor my levels etc. My mum and I decided that we wanted to move back to Sydney to be with our family and friends as we were alone in QLD and had no emotional support which we both needed. My mum took all the money out of her superannuation account which was just enough for us to move back home, and we have been back in Sydney for 2 weeks now. The house we moved into was unfortunately not cleaned and the real estate has not done anything as of yet, and as the house has mould, extreme dust etc we needed to hire a cleaner asap as I can’t be living in those conditions while being so unwell, so it took my mums last few hundred dollars on hiring service people for that. My mum has her own medical conditions and can’t take care of the house or lawns, so we constantly need to hire cleaners and gardeners. We are really struggling with finances as we are paying lots for medication and other expenses including petrol and hospital parking multiple times a week. My mum is due to go back to work in November but isn’t guaranteed a full time position and I as I can’t work for a while we are really worried about how we are going to survive. We have exhausted all resources from the Leukaemia foundation, cancer council and other organizations that helped us.
We would really appreciate any donations you could spare, thank you
