Hello. This is my first time posting this to see if anyone is willing to help me, and if you took your time reading this, thank you. My PayPal link is posted below after the last paragraph of my story.
Who am I?
I’m Marcus LeBoyle, and I live in Hunker, Pennsylvania, 36 minutes away from Pittsburgh. Pretty much a small town and rural, nothing too interesting. I don’t have any brothers or sisters so it’s just me, my mom and my dad. My dad worked as a firefighter (I look at him as my hero), while my mom worked as a teacher in Stanwood Elementary School in New Stanton. Me? Well, I work as a cashier at my local gas station while still in high school, though I usually hail a ride from my friend because my parents are always busy. Still, my family life is, or was, relatively stable. My mom was a healthy kind, though my dad had type 2 diabetes, even though he’s been always exercising on a regular basis. My grandparents were, unfortunately, house-bound and don’t really see us very often, and they live further away from us (they live in Wisconsin), as my aunts, uncles and cousins also live elsewhere in the states.
I had a call from my mom telling me that my dad was on sick leave and because his diabetes was getting worse, he had to be sent to the hospital in Pittsburgh to undergo gastric bypass surgery. And because of this, I had to leave my job to support my dad while my mom continued to work, though still visited us from time to time. After a week-and-a-half, the surgery came a success and my dad is alive and well, though is unable to return to work because of his condition.
Even though I missed my school days, my principal was at least understanding and caring enough for me to be with my dad to take care of him. Three days letter, we had an invoice from the hospital and guess what? It came out at a whopping $8,500 (originally $15,000 but was reduced by the insurance). I wish I was making this up, but I’m not. Even with insurance, it wasn’t enough to cover up the medical bill, and $8,500 is beyond my family’s personal budget, though it could’ve been worse; $15,000 would’ve been enough to put a serious strain on my parents’ income. I had already contacted my friends and relatives about the situation and had told me that they’re unable to make any kind of donations to help pay off the bill from my dad’s surgery. All they could do was offer sympathy, that’s pretty much it. And because I’m currently out of a job, the funds my mom earns are spent on necessities including bills from the house and buying food to keep ourselves going. Not to mention medication for my dad to keep himself going. Unfortunately, the bigger problem is that my dad can’t go out all the time because of his current condition and he can’t do too much exercise that can do more harm than good.
As for me? I’m just too unconfident to start working again, and because I don’t want to leave him by himself while my mom works, I had to take online classes so I don’t fall behind on my studies. All while taking care of my dad at the same time. And I don’t have a credit card either because I’m too young to afford it, and I’m only 16 at this time.
What is my current situation?
Because the medical bill is quite high, my parents’ overall income has become stagnant and I tried seeking help with virtually no success. I can’t really sell some of my old items because no one is interested in buying, and other people expect me to give them away for free. And my parents cannot sell their car because I need it to drive around for small errand runs while my mom uses her own to drive for work. Some people don’t take the current situation seriously. Yes, I have done odd jobs by doing yard work for other neighbors, but I only get just $5, and it’s seriously not enough to pay off the bill. Worse yet, my dad had to close his bank account because his credit money is being sucked through having to constantly buy painkillers in order to keep himself going. He tried applying for disability with no success. Worse yet, my parents got a call from the local hospital in Pittsburgh that if they don’t pay within the next month, they’ll terminate their insurance and it’ll put me and my parents in danger of losing our home, or worse, losing my dad.
And $8,500 (even though the original price was $15,000) is quite massive just for a bypass surgery and my dad being unable to work because of this. And me earning just a meager pay isn’t enough to pay the bill for the surgery. And the insurance company was of no help whatsoever so my current life is awfully dire. And moving to my relatives’ places are not essentially cheap and they have their own problems to deal with and they didn’t want us to become a burden to them so we were on our own, and we’re facing a losing battle.
For privacy reasons, I cannot show you any images, but I still hope my story is enough to hopefully convince the kind people to help me get out of the situation before it becomes increasingly volatile. And unfortunately, I have only a month before things can go from bad to worse, and because I have to take care of my dad without him having to pass on too soon, my mom is pretty much the only thing that’s keeping the ship from sinking.
