I’m a first year student at a small college and I’m in dire need of financial assistance for my medical bills. During the winter I fainted as a result of hypothermia, (I couldn’t afford proper winter clothing, I got a few things from Goodwill) an ambulance was called and I was taken to the ER. There I was put through a series of tests including a CT scan to determine if I suffered any brain damage from hitting my head, thankfully I didn’t.
I was released after several long and confusing hours. What I wasn’t prepared for was the bills. They started pouring in a couple months afterwards. I managed to pay off a radiology bill ($360) in full but I still have others to pay and it is overwhelming. I’m on a work-study program but I don’t make nearly enough to pay of my bills and I’m trying my best. My parents are unable to help me because they don’t have expenses to take care of, I have three younger siblings and with the pandemic going on, money is scarce.
I’m the oldest and the first in my immediate family to go to college, the last thing I wanted when starting college was to be a financial burden on my family because I know how hard we have it. That’s why I worked hard to get my scholarship and do work-study to support myself. But with everything going on I’ve begun to feel helpless. My bills come to a sum of $2,168, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
