I would first like to say thank you for help. My heart is filled with gratitude. You are truly an answer to prayer. As a result, I will pay it forward and be a blessing to someone else who needs help just as me and my family did.
My family of five (myself, husband and three kiddos) love our home. Our home is full of so many memories, filled with laughter, full of life and so much love. It’s the home where family come to celebrate holidays: Thanksgiving and Christmas. When my mother passed away we assumed the mortgage of the house. Soon after the pandemic came. It was during the pandemic that I had to leave work for about a year to take care for my babies because the schools were closed. Not only was I just Mom, but I put on the hat of full-time school teacher for 3 young children in different grades and classes. My husband was able to continue to work (and 2 additional side jobs). In the meantime, we put our mortgage in forbearance status. This was to give us some financial relief until I got payment, and was able to go back to work. My mortgage company had guaranteed us that the payments, interest, and all other fees would be added to the back of the mortgage. Unbeknownst to us, during that time frame the mortgage was sold. We were not informed, so when we attempted to make payment it was rejected. Also, the mortgage company didn’t know who now held the mortgage. So we were at a complete loss. It was an additional six months before we received notice from the new mortgage company. And you can guess what happened… they knew nothing about the payments, interest and fees being put to the back of the mortgage. They not only wanted the mortgage payment, the wanted the full amount…now almost $69,000 or they will foreclose.
I have done modifications, appeals, modifications again, applied for state grants, personal grants, just to get everything back on track. With home maintenance, the children’s needs, bills, etc , there is no lump sum $69,000 and this doesn’t include the negative $20,000 escrow amount.
What is truly sad is I am not the only one that this is happened to. I have chosen to look for help in other ways to keep our family home and the legacy my mother left us. The family home is the only things she left behind for us to treasure along with sweet memories.
From my heart, I would like to thank you for your help and your generosity. I appreciate you taking the time to be a part of our Family’s Legacy.
Thank you with Love,
Family Legacy
