Hello, my name is Elizabeth and my family is in desperate need of help. $10,000 to be exact. We are in jeopardy of losing our home, which we love dearly.
My high school sweetheart, Michael and I, purchased our home in 2015 and had been current with payments until this year. We live together with our seven pets – Hercules and Aphrodite (cats), Rufus (guinea pig), and Aubree, Olivia, Minnie, and Levi (dogs). We are unable to conceive due to my own serious medical conditions, so these are our children.
How we got here…
Michael has had a rough year. Since January, he has been hospitalized multiple times and diagnosed with agoraphobia, social anxiety, major depression disorder, PTSD, OCD, and suicidal ideation – he has attempted to take his own life multiple times. Good news, he is being treated!
He had taken a leave as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at one of the local hospitals while he sought help. During this time, he received 50% of his salary. Once he returned, he was approved for Intermittent Leave of Absence to cover days he may need to call in. During one of his episodes, we received a letter that he had been discharged from the organization he had spent over six years. This was a massive punch to the gut for him. He lost his portion of our income and our insurance, not to mention all of the progress on his diagnoses.
Luckily, I am also a Certified Pharmacy Technician at another local hospital and work full-time. I enrolled in benefits for us to get him coverage, keeping his treatment up is at the top of the list. Unfortunately, my salary is not enough to make ends meet.
Coming up empty handed…
I have turned everywhere for assistance. I have applied to the State for food, utilities, and health insurance supplement help, but we are not low income enough. Also, the State does not recognize Michael as being disabled, even though three diagnoses fall under ADA and his MD has certified as such.
I, too, applied for help to bring the mortgage current, but were denied. I was told, in layman’s terms, that because what I owe to bring it current and the monthly payments are more than my wages, it is a lost cause. The State would rather we be homeless.
I reached out to Michael’s parents who moved to two years ago, but were shut down. I was told they live too modestly, with their new pool, two sports cars, etc…to help. I also expressed my concern for Michael’s mental health, and they have turned their back on him. I was told to give up, find adopters for the dogs, and move on.
What keeps me going…
Thankfully, my mother and grandmother who are both widowed, that truly live modestly, have helped us with gas and groceries. This is all they can give, and it breaks their hearts. They have been our only family and support, even during Michael’s hospitalizations.
I am determined to save our home for our pets. Please take a minute to read about them and see pictures…
Hercules – 14 yr old cat. This is our big guy and Momma’s boy. He has been through five moves with us.
Aphrodite – 13 yr old cat. This is daddy’s princess. She will sit on the arm of his recliner for hours every night, just like Dr. Evil. She talks to Papa and will sass him as needed.
Rufus – 2 yr old guinea pig. This demanding fuzz ball is Aubree’s “pet.” The dogs love him so much. He demands a salad every night and we have never missed one.
Aubree – 5 yr old beagle/chihuahua. Rescued from the Humane Society. This is Momma’s baby girl, although she’d probably pick her grandma and grandma over me. She’s smart, independent, and caring. Every night, she licks her puppies eyes and ears before bed.
Olivia – nearly 2 yr old beagle/golden retriever. From local rescue. This gal filled a huge void for Momma, Papa, and Aubree when 11 month old Oliver (dog) passed from hepatic cancer. She is daddy’s doggo girl and believes she is a 45lb lap dog.
Minnie – 1 yr old blue tick healer/german shepherd. This is our hospice foster from the same local rescue. She was born with one kidney and could slip into renal failure at any moment. Her and Olivia are a bonded pair. She came to live with us on Cinco de Mayo 2018 and has gained over 10lbs. She is happy as ever, and thriving! The rescue is happy with her progress. She will live out her days with us. When asked if we could take her in, I knew I had to. She has the best life with two big sissies and one baby brother.
Levi – 1 yr old australian shepherd/basset hound/chihuahua/golden retriever. Also from local animal rescue. The truest mutt of mutts! This is our little man. A happier puppy will never be found. He needs three things in life — his sissies, a bone, and the backyard.
End of the line…
I would really appreciate your consideration in our plight. Our reinstatement quote through the lawyer’s office expires November27, 2018.
Thank you for your time. Much love to you and your’s this Holiday Season.
