My name is Deon Geldenhuys, and I am reaching out to you from a place of deep need and vulnerability. I grew up on a farm in South Africa, where my childhood was filled with the joys and challenges of farm life. However, when I was just 11 years old, my world turned upside down. My mother passed away, and the following year, both of my grandmothers passed as well. These early losses forced me to mature quickly, and I began working on my uncle’s farm during school holidays to support myself and continue my education.
Tragedy struck again when I was 24; my father and my aunt passed away on the same day. Despite these hardships, I worked diligently in the automotive industry, climbing the ladder and supporting my family and friends. However, this led me into significant financial difficulties. I got married, and after six years of trying to keep our home afloat by working over 270 hours a month, my wife asked for a divorce. Adding to the heartbreak, I discovered that my best friend of 20 years, who lived in a flat on our property, had been having an affair with her. They left together, shattering my world.
The most precious part of my life is my daughter, who is now 11 years old. She is my everything, and I have always strived to be the best father I can be for her. Despite the pain and challenges, I maintained a respectful relationship with her mother and made every effort to be present in her life. When I had to change jobs and move to a different province, I flew every second weekend to visit my daughter, ensuring that our bond remained strong.
My dream has always been to provide a stable home for my daughter and me. Over a year ago, I took a bold step and purchased a house for approximately $120,000 with a loan from the bank. However, an opportunity to work overseas turned into a nightmare when the company entered a joint venture, placing me in a precarious financial position once again. Being far away from my daughter has been excruciating, as I miss seeing her grow up and participating in her life.
I am reaching out to you because I need help to pay off the house and secure a stable future for my daughter and me. By doing so, I can return to my home country, find a job, and be more present in her life. I want to be there to see her play netball, attend her school activities, and provide the support and love she deserves. My ultimate goal is to save for her future, including her university education, which is only eight years away.
Life has taught me many harsh lessons, and I have always tried to help others despite my struggles. Now, for the first time, I am focusing on myself and my daughter. Two years ago, my younger brother, whom I raised from the age of four, was tragically murdered. This loss underscored the importance of cherishing the loved ones we have left. My daughter is all I have, and I am determined to be the father she deserves.
I am not asking for riches, but for a chance to provide a loving, stable home for my daughter and to be a present and supportive father. Your generosity can help me turn this dream into reality, allowing me to give my daughter the life and future she deserves. Thank you for considering my request and for any support you can provide.
