Hello to all caring human beings,
My name is Kevin and I am 61 years young. My common law wife, myself, and our two cats will soon be evicted from where we are currently staying, at an Extended Stay hotel in the Metro Washington D.C, area. I am not normally one to ask anybody for financial assistance, but these are extraordinary times for myself and family. The following is our story.
I had been employed as a CPR and First Aid instructor for the past 12 years. I lost my job at the beginning of August of this year, 2019. My wife has been unable to work for several years because of mental health issues. She was denied any disability benefits even though her longtime doctor confirmed she is unable to hold continuous employment. We were evicted from our condo two years ago because we could not make rent payments without her additional source of income. We ended up at an Extended Stay hotel because we could still afford that on my income and they allow pets. We have been living here for almost two years. After losing my job things became desperate. We have no family to provide any assistance and our friends tried to help but there was just not enough money for the support we require because I am having trouble finding any employment that will pay the bills. I have had my drivers license and car registration suspended because I can no longer pay for car insurance, a requirement in Virginia. This makes it even more difficult for me to find a job that will support us, We have turned to Churches and Government Agencies for assistance and all we were able to obtain was food stamps and Medicaid for my wife. Needless to say, we are desperate, dreading becoming homeless, and losing our cats. Also, in her current mental state, my wife is slipping further into a bi-polar depression. The staff at the hotel have been very kind and human toward us but they have no choice but to evict. We need immediate help desperately.
The eviction notice gives an amount past due, including attorney fees of a bit over $ 5500.00 and this does not include the rent building up since the notice was given earlier this week. Also, in order to get insurance and have my license reinstated at the DMV, I am looking at an additional $ 1500.00. Then we have to come up with payment for a few more months of rent at approximately $ 1600.00 a month and hopefully this will give enough time for me to become employed again. I have a wide skill set and a college degree but I feel my age is hindering me from finding meaningful employment or any employment that might support us. I have been working since I was a teen and being unemployed is a new experience for me.
Now, after we add up the funding we require just to remain in our hotel room and to be able to use our car again – approximately $ 12,000.00 – we feel desperate and defeated. We pray there are some human beings in this world, who may be more fortunate than us, that will offer assistance to some good people and their cats. I am working on getting our eviction notice scanned in and posted along with a picture of our family. Any help you may provide would be greatly appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We thank you in advance for your support.
