May things be well with you and yours. Even though I am experiencing financial hardship via threat of eviction I am grateful that this opportunity exist for me to ask for help. I am a 62 year old childless, divorced widow. I was the caregiver of a parent who had dementia before passing in 2019. I am a teacher with mental health challenges that are controlled by meds, faith and therapy (not necessarily in this order). I have worked since the age of 17–so asking for money is not a habit. But, I need help. I am behind $1,608 in rent due to a loss of income since October of last year after a student assaulted me. I’ve had negative encounters with students in the past; but the violence of this incident triggered anxiety and trauma which I have been working through for many years. The result has been a slow process to build tutoring clientele. Between students not showing up resulting in being canceled or assignments naturally ending–my income since October has drastically decreased and fluctuated. Since I live in public housing, keeping up with rent over the past 9 months has been a real struggle due to the inconsistency of my income. Now, I have received an eviction letter with rent due by July 7. I need help! I am hoping for light at the end of the tunnel within a couple of months. I have lived on $600 a month (widow benefits) and fluctuating tutor income since October 2022. I am waiting for approval of retirement which may begin in August. Also, I am hoping to teach a two week STEAM camp offered by a community organization beginning July 9. This can result in some income. The summer months when students are not in school drastically affects tutoring. When the school year begins at the end of August I am depending on 1-1 tutoring opportunities to increase. But, at this time I need help! My 1997 car has been sitting since November of last year due to needing gaskets, brakes, and struts. I have used the city bus for transportation. I was given a verbal quote of $1,500 for the repairs. I purchased the car used in 2020 with less than 130.000 miles on it and it has served me well. I would like to hold onto it for at least 2-3 more years. Both the rent and the car totals $3,108. I must get as close to this as I can (with the rent being priority – yet, the car is very beneficial to me). It is in my nature to help others. Please help me to get back to being better able to help myself so that I can truly get back to helping others. Thank you in advance. Blessings to you for being a blessing to me.
