Emergency Help

I am writing this with hope that I will get help coming up with $2150 to pay my rent. Back in February, I underwent knee replacement surgery. At the time I used all of my money to pay for 2 months of rent. I thought I had someone I could trust and depend on to pay the rent for April and possibly May and June. My road to recovery has gone well with the exception of the fact of me having to find new employment because the current job I have would be too strenuous on me after healing and getting used to my replacement. I believed I had found a work from home position providing technical support for TurboTax, however, on the last night of training as I worked feverishly finish up my training I was kicked out of the program. So in the meantime I started looking for rental assistance programs only to find out that my landlord will not work with any agencies. I do not know what happened to cause him to take this stance because when I originally started renting from him I was on section 8 of which I have not been on for the past few years, ( before the pandemic).

My name is Trecia Green, I live in Gary, IN. I’ve been renting from him since 2015 or 16 whichever adds up to the fact this yr makes 9yrs I’ve been renting with him. This year on February 5th, 2024 I had total knee replacement surgery.  I used all if my money to pay February and March rent. I thought I had in place someone to pay April’s and possibly May’s rent. But on April 12th, he texted me to inform me that my rent was late and a $50 late fee is to be paid with the $700 rent which means I owe a total of $750 then. So, at that time he said to me that he doesn’t accept any agency or government help. He don’t do township. Then he said that if I send him the info he would look at it. So I called 211 applied for rental assistance and submitted the documents they needed. So on May 1st, I get another text stating that if I don’t give him the $750 for April in 10 days he is going to file for eviction. I called 211 to find out the status of my application is when I found out I submitted the wrong email address for the landlord I got the right email address and updated the application informed my landlord to watch for the email from them. He stated to me that he isn’t accepting any help from any agency, I reminded him what he said to me in April I texted back with a copy of what he said to me in April. Then he said ” I said inwould look at it i wasn’t going to accept it. In the conversation on May 1st. He got really nasty with me. I’ve always paid my rent on time there has never been a problem even through covid I paid my rent on time with out any rental assistance that was going on. He knows I’m a hard worker and will get him his rent. Even after explaining to him the circumstances he still remained nasty to me I will try to attach both of the conversations from April and May. Even when he raised the rent in May of 2021 by $25 a d it made it $650 then he raised it again in January of 2022 and I would have had to pay $850 but I talked to him and explained I couldn’t afford that and we agreed on $700 and I’ve been paying that still on time no problems at all now this although thru this time he has not called or texted to ask if anything was needed I have a broken window and it’s been broke for a couple of yrs now because he wants to charge me for taking it out and putting it back in. The wood around the window is rotted and he knows it I wasn’t going to try and have anyone else do it because of that issue because it will cause other issues so it’s just broke the furnace doesn’t get checked yearly like it used to when I first moved there. I want to stay until I can do better and find somewhere else but u need time to make sure I don’t have any other health problems I’ve had 3 different surgeries in the past 3 yrs. I’ve never been evicted in my life, and he isn’t trying to work with me at all i haven’t been back to work yet and he knows I’m not working right now. I just started training at a new place less strenuous than my previous job I had before this surgery. Please help.

Good morning Mr. Winder how are you well i pray haven’t been back to work the drs. has not released me yet I thought I had helpnin this dept but at the last moment I see I didn’t so now I need to know what assistance can I try to go to to get help with the rent that you will accept. That’s also with the fact of trying to get someone to take me because I haven’t been released to drive yet either so I need to get anywhere I have to ask someone and be on their time. Basically I can’t do anything or go anywhere without the assistance of someone else.
Hello Ms Green I fell your pain but, that’s your personal issues which I cannot involve myself with. you must understand I run a business not a friendship or non for profit organization therefore, all tenants must pay their rent or vacate the property.
Good morning Mr. Winder I was asking where can go to get assistance that you will accept for payment for the rent
I don’t deal with any organization for rent payments only the tenants.
Mr Winder at this point the only option I have this to try to seek assistance from township, a church or what ever program that will help me I’ve always had the rent even during then pandemic and on time this is a first being like this
Mr Winder you still going to get paid even though it’s coming from a rent assistance you were going to accept rent assistance during the pandemic so why not now you still going to get your money

Good morning Ms Green the 7th of May you will be 2 months past due in rent so, if I don’t received April rent within 10 day I will be filing eviction notice.
I have put in an application to 211/ IERA/Northwest Indiana Community Action which they work with IHDCA in waiting on them to let me know what’s the next step.
I don’t run a charity ,friendship or nonprofit business like i state 10 days and I must move on.
Mr Winder I applied for assistance I have to wait in them it’s not about charity, friendship or nonprofit the fact I’ve applied for it a d waiting in them all I can do is wait on them it’s not like I’m not trying I’m doing what needs to be done.
Ms Green that’s you problem not mine and I don’t have to wait

I said I would take a look at it but I didn’t say I would accept it.
Plus I don’t like dealing government agencies it takes to much extra work I don’t have time for that.
Mr. Winder uve paid my rent to you on time since I’ve been here a d through out covid. And I explained to you that the source I thought that would help me didn’t come thru and I didn’t find that out until you texted me and let me know you had not received anything I’m doing everything I could possibly do to try and get you paid and it isn’t easy
My time is precious who will pay for all the extra time it takes for reading and filling out those forms.
Get it through your head you didn’t do me any favors by paying your rent because all tenants pays rent you are not my only tenant.
That last paragraph was the last thing I’ve heard from him.
I would really appreciate any and all help that can be given to me.
