2 weeks from Eviction

I feel really bad having to “beg” for money.  I have always been able to take care of myself and have never been in this situation before.  But the times have changed and so have I the older I get, so here goes:

I am about to be evicted.  Due to various circumstances beyond my control, I have gotten 3 months behind in my rent and my landlord is threatening eviction.  How did I get to this level of desperation?  Seven years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer.   Underwent several months of chemotherapy and a few more months of radiation therapy.  I am happy to say that I survived the cancer, but not without consequences.  I was already Type I diabetic.  A condition in itself that is difficult at times, but it also contributes to some loss in bone density.  The chemo and radiation also contributes to a loss in bone density.  Needless to say, all this loss in bone density has left me with Osteoporosis of which has resulted in my suffering 6 compressed vertebrae since mid 2019.  I have had surgery on 2 of them, the others “healed” on their own but are still compressed.  This causes chronic pain 24/7.  I have filed for disability because of this but have been denied several times by their physicians due to the type of work I have done most of my life – office/clerical work.  They do not take into consideration that just moving/lifting my arms causes pain.  But I have managed to work with this pain – until recently.  On August 26, 2022 I was let go from my job.  I was in a position for 13 mos in a job that I loved that started out as temporary and transpired to permanent just prior to my being let go, so yes, I was still on probation.  I was out for 9 days with Covid.  Upon my return, my new supervisor, who turned out to be the vindictive type, had already set the wheels in motion to terminate my position.  I had never had any issues with her while she was just a coworker.  But when she became my supervisor her whole demeaner changed.

I was getting behind in my rent prior to this, mainly because our electric bill soared to just under $500/mo the last several months ($280 used to be my highest bill in the summer) and I also support my 30 year old son.  He had an accident back in 2019 falling off of a ladder and shattered his ankle/broke his leg.  He spent a year in an external fixator and had to stay off his leg/foot.  The type of work he did at that time was light maintenance and painting.  Well, he can no longer do that type of work as he cannot stand for long periods and definitely will not get back on a ladder.  He has tried to get an office type job (he actually tests quite high in all Microsoft Office apps and types 80 wpm) but no one even looks at his applications because he has had no actually office experience.  Plus he was recently diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum which is going to make his hunt for employment even more difficult.

I am diligently looking for work and have some interviews lined up but in the meantime, I am 2 weeks away from living in my car with my son, 3 dogs, 3 cats and 5 turtles.  All I need is enough to pay my rent, possibly buy food for my son and I and to feed my critters.

Rent is $1,150/mo and I owe July, August and now September equaling $3,450 and the cost of food for my son and I as well as our pets vary.  We are good for a little while on the medical supply side of things.  We just want to be able to survive with a roof over our heads and be able to eat.

I apologize for the novel, but thank you for listening.
