Hello! My name is Lucy and I am a rising sophomore in college. I am off until early September and I have taken a summer internship at a hospital in Cleveland with an administrative department. I have been working here since June. It has been a really rewarding experience knowing the projects that I am working on help patients and the nurses/doctors that work so hard to take care of them. I have helped set up a same-day walk-in injury clinic, made keeping track of inventory more accessible, and created a workflow to help decrease insurance denials for medically urgent surgeries. Sadly, my internship is not paid (which is usually illegal but worked in my situation because it was documented as “shadowing” instead of an internship, a title they only can use for the members of their residency programs/temporary fellows), and I am in $100 debt of overdraft and the fees. My family pushed me to take this unpaid internship instead of a job because they knew the experience on my resume would help me later on in life. I am living alone, so I need money to buy food, work clothes, etc. and my money from waitressing last summer didn’t stretch far enough. I am majoring in economics with a minor in biology, which is an extremely hard and heavy course load, not giving me enough time to work during the school year. I am unable to get financial help from my family, which is why I am asking all of you.
I love my internship and would love to pursue a Masters of Health Administration degree one day, but for now I need to at least survive the summer. I haven’t had lunch in 2 weeks because I have no way to pay for it. I have had to get really creative with dinner but I am running out of options at this point. Any single dollar will put me little closer towards the positives (which happens to be my goal from this website) and would be extremely appreciated. I hate to ask for anything but I just have to make an exception for this situation. If you’re still reading at this point, thank you for even considering. One day, when I hopefully have enough, I plan to pay the kindness forward and help students like myself that are in need. If you donate, I promise I will send all the good karma your way every day. Thank you for helping me on my journey!
