Life suddenly transitioned for me when my mom was suddenly diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer with 4 rounds of chemotherapy before her breast removal surgery and upon the 3rd round of treatments, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and 5 days later suffered a debilitating stroke with major effects to the left side of her body, leaving her as a total care patient. Being her only child and living in a separate state, we made the best of our situation I’ve been traveling back and forth from Georgia to Tennessee being gainfully employed at the time, then one day my employer had an emergency meeting a week before Thanksgiving and laid off over 500 of us effective immediately. When it rains it pours!
During this time, my mother had the mastectomy surgery which was successful in spite of her condition. As we were on the road of recovery and rehabilitation, my mom was in and out of 3 nursing facilities, catching COVID being admitted to the hospital quarantine for 10 days. Had 2 extensive Hospital stays where it was touch and go from the negligence of the nursing facilities, I had to make a decision to bring her home in hopes of saving her life instead of returning back to the nursing facilities. This has been an extremely hard transition not knowing what to expect becoming a total care giver with the aid of my two adult daughters 25 & 30. They are independent and have their own jobs and household expenses.
All of my savings, Servance pay not to mention living off my credit cards everything went towards paying my monthly expenses during the layoff and having to assist with small home remodeling spending 5k on my mom’s bathroom renovation for now handicap accessibly and a wheelchair ramp installed in front of her home.
Eventually after 8 months of being laid off finally offered gainful employment with a 30k a year pay cut. And things have been snowballing out of control financially ever since. My mother went from being gainfully employed but her company didn’t have a 401K nor retirement program so now her total income SSI. With the little income I am currently bringing in, I am also having to share with her making up any monthly expenses that my mother can’t afford on her own.
As much as I would like to move back to Tennessee, I have not been able to find employment opportunities there, so I am still working and residing in Georgia, commuting weekly to provide care for my mom, now managing all of her affairs and doctors/ therapy appointments. My vehicle is 2008 with over 260,000 miles which I own but recently had to pawn my car title (worse mistake EVER) to avoid an eviction. Yet I am still drowning in debit making only minimal payments for my credit cards that are unusable because the balances are still too high. So, my contributions are not helping me. And right now, we are trying to prevent homelessness being one paycheck away from the inevitable happening and the bottom really falling out.
Anything is possible! And family is so important! I believe in God! So, who am I to deny what the Lord can do, (as the song says) I believe by faith that through this platform with kind generous people around the world like you, that I am hopeful to receive some financial assistance! My bible reads ask and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door will be opened. Here I am asking, seeking and knocking for immediately financial assistance to help me get out of my current sinkhole of past due bills while not neglecting the needs and duties as a daughter providing the best care for my mom. This is my first-time seeking community support during these financial hard times for a lot of people, so I know that I am not alone. I am seeking up to $8,000.00 for immediate financial assistance to cover a month of past due expenses bring me current.
