My name is Stephanie. I am a 20-year-old pre-med student that just recently moved out on my own. If you were to tell me that in 2019 I would be posting a request online asking for financial help, I probably would’ve laughed and called you crazy but I am here. After the year that I have had, I really have no idea what to do or how to make things better. This is my last resort and I am really hoping that it helps even just a little.
For the past year, I have been knocked down more times than I’ve gotten up. It just seems as though 2019 does not want me to achieve anything that I hoped to (if that makes sense lol). I moved out of my mom’s house in August of 2018 due to issues at home and I also wanted to go to school in Tallahassee so I moved in with my boyfriend. The first couple of months were smooth sailing, I was enrolled in school and looking for a job. Finding employment was very hard as a lot of the places I applied to were not very responsive but I eventually landed a job. Soon after I was employed, my boyfriend and I were at the store attempting to pay rent and my debit card kept declining. I called my bank (Wells Fargo at the time) and asked them why my card isn’t allowing me to pay my rent and the representative’s response almost sent me on my knees. My heart felt like it stopped and I could feel it drop to the pit of my stomach. The representative informed me that they were closing my account because they suspected suspicious activity and my account was at $-886. I explained to them that I don’t understand or know what is going on but they told me since it is my account, I am responsible for paying back that overdrawn amount. Someone was able to wipe my card out completely as well as take more than what was in my account. I was devastated. I fell into a deep depression and it hindered my school work performance. That account had all the money that I was saving to be able to continue living on my own without having to rely on my mom. After that, I got help and support from my boyfriend and my mom but they could only help so much as my mom has 3 other kids to take care of and my boyfriend is also a college student. After that situation, it seemed like more and more obstacles were popping up. My new bank account was hacked again when I ordered something online, my social security and other personal information was used to purchase a car, I accumulated about $1200 in credit card debt due to having to use my credit card because I had no other money, my health started deteriorating which led to hospital and lab bills that are now in collections, and I am trying to get into University of Arizona Medical School so I have to pay for the extra classes I need to get in that aren’t part of my current curriculum. I also have two cats (pictured here) and the oldest one is 1 year old with problems in his stomach and bladder. The baby is 6 months old and while I don’t think he has any health issues, I still haven’t been able to afford to take them to the veterinarian to make sure. For the oldest cat, he has been experiencing horrible diarrhea for about 6 or 7 months and I have tried every home remedy that I could find but nothing has helped. He also has a problem within his bladder that is causing him to pee any and everywhere because he can’t hold it long enough to get to the litter box. I would really love to be able to take them to the vet to be seen but with all that’s been happening this year, I can’t. It’s also almost November and here in Tallahassee, it is already getting cold. My boyfriend and I have been meaning to go shopping for winter clothes but something has always come up to where we have to put the little bit of money that we have towards something else. For instance, 3 weeks ago we finally had enough saved to get us each a couple of cold weather outfits and when we went to go to the store, the car started making weird noises. We had to call someone to look at the car and come to find out, it needed a new transmission. Because we both have school and work, we had to get the car fixed ASAP so we had to spend all the money that we saved for winter clothes to get a new transmission for the car. Now my account is at $-3.89 because of this new transmission. It is October 23rd and I have rent due next week, my phone bill is also due next week, our kitchen is empty because we haven’t been able to buy groceries, we still do not have clothes for this cold winter, and I still haven’t paid for my classes that start in December. I can’t keep asking my mom for help because as I stated before, she has my 3 brothers to take care of and she is also struggling financially. If we can get just a little bit of help, we would be forever grateful. I would love to get my cats checked, pay my bills, pay off some debt and prepare for this cold weather. Thank you so much in advance!
