My Name is Mohammed Samir Hinnawi, and i am a General Surgical Resident in his third year of specialty in Jerusalem, I am writing to whole world in the hope that you would consider my humanitarian appeal to continue my pursuit of knowledge and medical excellence , i got trapped in Gaza amid this devastating war while visiting my family (My elderly parents) and I am creating this campaign to raise funds for my future and to evacuate my family.
Throughout my years of study, i have consistently been a distinguished pupil among my counterparts. I graduated from high school with a grade of 98.4%, equivalent to 9 in the GCSE grading system (4.0 GPA). I graduated from Al-Quds University in Gaza with an honors degree in 2019, ranking second in my class.
I completed my foundation training at al-Shifa hospital with an honors degree and then Started my training as a Resident in surgical department at Al Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem, aiming to specialize in General Surgery. I completed 2 years of training in Al Makassed hospital and passed the Arab Board exam in my First Year. In my 3rd year of training, this year, i wanted to make a visit to my family in Gaza on 5th of October.
Little did i know that this would be a critical juncture in my life, surrounded with tanks and under intense bombardment from airplanes, we had to flee our home twice (which we don’t know anything about it, if it is still standing or not) and then i carried my sick father, took my mother, and went to the south to take shelter in my relative’s house, which houses 140 other refugees, in hope that we would find safety, but there was none. Every day, we wake up to the sound of bombs and the mourns of bereaved families. Then, we continue our day searching for food amid scarcity, but before we go to sleep if it is possible due to the heavy sound of bombings, we comfort each other with hope for a better tomorrow, as despair is the enemy of life.
As a consequence it’s impossible for me to return to work there in Jerusalem even when the war stops because Israeli authorities have banned Gazans from entering Jerusalem. Therefore, i had to seek continuing my medical training elsewhere.
I am reaching out filled with hope that it will fall on good ears. The hope that humanity’s compassion has always prevailed amid the most darkened realities and as they said, the doctors have a humanitarian message to deliver to the world, which is to save lives and heal the wounded and ill despite the agony in the hardest of moments.
I hope you have the heart to support me to continue and find my way to be able to help others which is all i was doing and what i want to keep doing.
