Social Security is billing me $23,551.40 for overpayment to pay back within 30 days, or they will withhold my SSI disability checks of $1545 per month until it is paid off. That helps pay my housing and living expenses. Social Security had given me permission to work in a low-paying job from home September, 2017 after I told them in 2017 that $225 a month SSI Disability couldn’t pay my bills. Eventually savings ran out, paying for cancer treatment & surgery. Travelers paid me with Work Disability after a work back injury from June 2016 to June 2017, and I couldn’t work until their lawyers offered me a settlement to leave my job, a lump sum, and no more monthly disability. Paying for cancer surgery & other expenses went through the lump sum quickly, so working from home helped a lot. After 2 1/2 years I had to leave that home-based job to replace both knees with Medicare’s help, then I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2, and over 95% blockage of 4 arteries to my heart. That required a Quadruple Bypass & intensive physical therapy for that & both of my knees. For the past few years, Social Security has audited me for working that low pay job during SSI Disability, and my production at work rewarded me with commissions and incentives to put me over the salary limitations specified by Social Security. Since I haven’t worked since 2020, and Social Security converted Disability to Retirement, they feel I owe them a year’s salary of $23,551 back for overpayment. That is exactly what I earned for a year on the old job before 2020, and the IRS is tag-teaming with SSA to levy this penalty that equals a year’s salary. I have not worked since 2020, so with this Govt penalty and an emergency tooth extraction and jaw restoration estimate that wants the same amount of about $23,000, I can’t possibly pay both Social Security and either of 2 dentists that gave estimates in the same range that I owe Social Security. That’s over $46,000 total, and puts me in dire straits. It would be at least doable to take care of the Social Security debt, and perhaps I can reason with the Dentists to help my dental emergency & bone restoration with monthly payments. Please someone help me with at least my Social Security debt so that I can keep my Social Security monthly check. Thank you in advance. James K Houston
