I am a single mother with 2 kids. About a month and a half ago my car broke down. I had about $2400 from my tax return left. So I decided to try and get a personal loan online for $4000 to get a vehicle. I have never tsken a personal loan before and was not familiar with the process. The first “company” that contacted me asked me for a processing fee first which I paid. Then they asked for me to purchase a PPI because my credit isn’t great. Then they asked that I “secure” the loan with 17% of the loan amount. I was hesitant but after being assured over and over that I wouldn’t be asked for anymore money, I went ahead and paid it. Of course, they then required a transfer fee. It was $998, $499 for 2 transfers. I told them I did not have it, and my “loan officer” said that if I could come up with $350, his company could cover the rest, and I could return the money when I received the loan. Stupidly I did. I was then told after making that payment that the loan wouldn’t process because the money didn’t come from me. If I could just come up with $149 then I could pick receive the first half of the loan, pay the rest of the fee, and receive the rest of the money. Desperately hoping I would get the money, I came up with it n only to be told that I had to activate both transfers before I could receive either. I requested the loan be cancelled at this point and my money returned. They refused. I contacted them many times and got the run around. Now they say the loan application “expired” and because if that my money cannot be returned. Total, that company got me for $2014. The next company that contacted me asked for half of the first month’s payment upfront, which was $25.70. I misunderstood and paid $25.17. I was asked to pay the correct amount and was assured that both payments would be applied to my first payment. Then they said my credit was so bad that they required me to enroll in their credit builder program. The cost would be $140, and after paying it I would receive the loan within 15 to 20 minutes. After waiting for 2 hours and attempting contact several times I was finally able to speak to someone and was told that my credit was so awful that I now needed to pay a $254 fee for them to boost my credit. I refused and asked for my money back. They refused. They instructed me that I had another option and told me to open a wells Fargo checking account. They were going deposit $6000 into the account and I was to withdraw it and send it to them. This was supposed to somehow erase my unsecured debt. I refused and was told that I could either pay the $254 or open that account and do as they said or I wouldn’t receive the loan or my money back. Total I loSt $190 to this company. The last company that contacted me had a decent website and no bad reviews or comments that I could find. I was sent a very professional loan agreement, and everything seemed legit. The only catch with this loan is that because my credit wasn’t good I had 2 options to secure the loan. The first was to have a co signer with a 700 credit score that made $30000 a year at least. The second was to pay 3 monthly payments upfront. A total of $450. I would not have a payment for 3 months and would receive the loan within 1 to 2 hours after making the payment. I hesitated, but my loan officer seemed like a very nice, intelligent woman. I told her that I had already lost a lot of money and that as a single another hit was going be a very bad thing for me. She assured me over and over that her and her company were reputable, reliable lenders and they weren’t in business of trying to take from people. Finally I agreed to make the payment. I never received the loan of course, and when I contacted my “loan officer” the next morning she hung up on me repeatedly before finally transferring my call to her “client manager”. He informed me that although in the contract it plainly stated that once the $450 payment was made the money would be transferred, that because of a small little clause in the fine print, the lender could request additional collateral. I asked for the loan be cancelled and my money returned and was told that would take at least days. The next day the client manager contacted me and said that his company would cover the $450 payment and I could send it back to them once I received the loan. I refused and was told that he would contact me within 24 hours to give me an exact date on when I would get my money back. Of course, I’ve never heard back from them gotten my money back. Now I am need of a vehicle still, and am extremely behind on bills. I am not seeking a hand out. I am seeking a personal loan from a good person who won’t mess me over. $8000 is what I’m looking for.
