A kind soul’s help would be invaluable to us this time of year. My husband and I are in a rough situation where we owe over $12,000 in taxes due to an old business we ran and failed. The business has brought us $100,000.00 dollars worth of debt, including the government taxes. Days and nights without dinner or lunch have been many. Restaurant and food court smells fill our stomachs instead of food when we are out shopping, and on special dates we order one large plate and share while spending the rest on a dessert to share, too. We are newly married, and the fact that we couldn’t afford wedding bands goes without say (if we had them we would have sold them to pay towards our debt). Savings were spent on a winter jacket and boots after pre-owned coats failed to keep out the stinging cold, and boots were absent from our wardrobe. We have reached the point where we have had to rent part of our tiny apartment to a student-friend, until they find a new room to move in. It is difficult because we have little private, safe space for emotions, so we are more quiet than talkative these days. Working hard, we have payed just over $5,000.00 worth of debt to collection agencies and former business suppliers. I am not a permanent resident of this country, and while processing my papers, it is best to show my husband does not owe government fees, being the $12,000.00 in taxes. I have a university degree but cannot work because I am neither a permanent resident nor do I have a working permit, and neither of us have family whom we can reach out to for help. Many of our belongings have been sold just to make ends meet. My husband is a warm-hearted, empathetic man, who could not stand to see the homeless on the street without a proper meal, and customized dishes to their taste. He sponsored seven children from third-world countries simultaneously to make sure they could eat and afford school. He donated to hospitals, and until today, donates a few dollars several times a month when we come across those even more in need than ourselves, with no shelter or tattered clothes. Once we are back on our feet without debt, we will be sure to pay this back, by helping community members once again, sponsoring children and giving confident sums of donations like we once could. He always puts me before himself, and has a warm, empathetic heart. He is intelligent and hard working, and has never missed a day of work except once a few months ago when he came down with the flu. He is never one to miss an opportunity to work and educate himself through podcasts and books; his daily before and after-work rituals. The $100,000.00 debt sum is only the sum we owe, and not our daily living expenses, such as rent, gas, and prescription + doctor visits. Please help keep me with the love of my life, as my application must be submitted within a timely manner within these few months, but we cannot make $12,000 by then nor do we have anyone left to ask. I would like to submit my application with my husband’s best possible government financial standing. Attached are images of the letters he received from agencies who mailed to let him know his debt sum was cleared. I do not have access to his tax account, though. Several months ago, a scam agency had us lose $2,000.00; where we found it was a scam too late, referring to themselves as “related to the government”— and we hurriedly payed everything we had in fear. This resulted in us having to borrow to pay our rent and other dues, and adding to our cycle of debt. My whole life, I have never had to ask for money from others, nevertheless had I ever had to borrow from anyone. Our goal is to clear everything up within a few years, but halfway through, we want to be able to rent a suit and a dress and take wedding photos; and build savings for our future. A warm soul’s help during this season would be a priceless act of kindness towards us. He is the love of my life. Please help keep us together. Any amount possible for donation would be of great help and thank you.
Once we are on our feet again, we will be able to give back to others like we once could, hopefully not only through money, but through time and warm meals as well.
-Hoping for Help, hand in hand
