I have run out of ideas what else to do to help a friend. This is the last resort, at least I hope it is.
I have for months now been trying to help a dear friend who has hit rock bottom. She is a 32 year old mother to a wonderful daughter whom she is struggling to raise alone without any support from the dad.
She has always been hardworking since she joined the world of work at the age of 18 years. She’d achieved alot but still has great potential until disaster struck last year in May when she was laid off. It was a well paying job although very demanding and stressful, but it paid the bills, put food on the table and allowed her to put away some savings for hard times.
After losing her job however, everything started going downhill from there. She applied for several jobs since last year but up until now, she has had no calls for interviews or any other responses. It is a very trying time for her given that she’s the sole breadwinner getting no financial support from her child’s father or from government. Her savings run out last year and so she sold her car for her daughter and her own survival.
Because the car had depreciated quite considerably, she didn’t get much from the sale. That too has run out and now she is totally broke. She has not been able to pay her dues for months since last year and is barely able to feed her daughter or herself. As such she often skips meals just to enable her daughter to have enough to eat.
She requires a total of $55,000 to $65,000 just to clear debts, avoid eviction, prevent utilities from being cut off, put food on the table, clothes on her daughters back, shoes, formula, transportation fees, day care fees, buy diapers, childrens’ books, educational materials…the list goes on. All these she had been catering for with her one income. Seychelles is a very expensive country to live in given that we export almost everything. Consumers thus have to pay high costs for products and services.
Circumstances have drastically changed for the worse for her and she desperately needs help/ support.
*The local Red Cross is unable to assist as they have a long list of applicants and they do not have enough supplies.
*The Agency for Social Protection is taking many beneficiaries off the list and does not intend on adding any new applicants to benefit from government aid.
*Local churches are not in a position to help her and do not have the capacity for raising funds.
I’ve also reached out to various international institutions, fund raising platforms including Ministries on her behalf:

We received no response from the Ministries. The response from the fundraising/crowdfunding platforms i.e. GoGetFunding and GoFundMe was that they do not serve our region so it will not work and this was a similar response from the International Children’s Fund. We did not get any response from the rest.
It is why I am posting this message here. I am just taking a leap of faith on behalf of my distraught and despairing friend as a last resort to try and help my dearest friend who has been there for me and others in our time of trouble. I just hope that someone somewhere will empathise and maybe, just maybe share this with friends and family to get help for my friend and her dearest daughter even if they themselves are unable to help her.
If you’ve experienced or know someone who has gone through a similar situation then you know exactly how my friend feels to not know where the next meal will come from or how to keep a roof over her head. I am heart broken because even after all the outreach I have done, no one has been able to provide a positive response to help my friend.
What she is going through is something that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I’ve watched my friend go through various emotions this past year; depression, anxiety, feeling useless, hating herself for the situation she is in and having very dark thoughts. Honestly it scares me, I may lose her. I just wish I could take the pain away and make everything better for her and her daughter. What makes her situation even worse is that her family have shun her.
She has been given up to 30th June 2022 to pay up her unpaid house rent. It is taxing on her mental and physical health as no human being has to choose whether a roof over one’s head is more important than groceries.
This is a plea to please help a woman who needs a helping hand and a second chance to stand on her feet once again and get on with her purpose in life. Please, if you care enough for human life, please do help her.
If not please share with those that can and are willing to help pull someone up.
Also please share with other members of groups or organisations that you believe can help her….if it’s not too much to ask. Donations of any amount will be greatly appreciated. I am sure she will be a blessing to others are those helping her are being a blessing to her.
I do not want to sit idly by until I have exhausted all avenues, so I implore you to please soften your hearts and help me help her and her daughter. It would be a testimony to the existence of hope still in the world.
