Hi! My name is Kelly. I’m a 48 yr old Irish, Catholic laborer. I grew up with morals & values & most importantly work ethic. I’ve had several odd jobs as a youngster & would do anything to make a buck, be it cutting grass, shoveling snow, or selling veggies door to door. If all else failed I’d donate my time to my church or volunteer at other functions. “Idle hands are the work of the devil!” My Grandma use to always say. As an adult I was a hairstylist, but that fizzled out bc I’m too shy & timid they’d say, to work for the public. So I became a laborer. Which I love. It keeps me busy with hands on work & it’s a great workout. That all came to an end due to downsizing & a layoff. Unemployment ran out over a year ago. I’ve since lost my car, home & have been stripped of my dignity & place in society. There are no jobs in my area unless I have a degree or transportation at the very minimum. I’ve become what the Dept of public welfare here call ‘Chronically homeless.’ Now it’s winter. My closest family is a state away in Cleveland, Ohio. I have a brother there that can put me to work at the mill he’s at; but thats all he can do beings he’s got a wife & 5 kids of his own. So I have a goal set. I’ve done my research. The biggest hurdle is not just transport there, but funds to rent a room or any place to stay. Just til I get 1 or 2 paychecks to get my own apt. The shelters were full being wintertime in a big city. I’ve put ads on Craigslist to sublet or roomshare. I am getting some responses. I just need a hand-up not a hand-out to make that first move. Please help me. On a side note, I can prove all of this & have already talked to my future employer in Ohio about stipulating a payback program that comes directly out of my paycheck. With interest if need be. I’ll always be grateful to whomever steps up to the plate to help make my dreams come true; & that’s to once again be a self sufficient, independent woman & member of society that can turn around & not only pay it back but pay it forward & help others in return. Thank you for your time & make yourself a great day!
