First I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to read my post. I worked for a mental health counseling company for the last two years. During this time, unknown to me, the company was going under. I was one of only 4 employees in the company. About a year ago, my boss informed me that the company was unable to bill clients insurance and that they were unable to pay me. I told them that I understood and we worked out a deal that when insurance payments came in, that they would pay. For about 4 months this worked out very well. Once a month they would give me as much as they could. Sometimes that was only $400, but at least I was getting something. During this time, to keep myself afloat, I started using my credit cards very often. I would buy food, gas, and extracurricular activities for my son on my credit cards.
Then suddenly the company was unable to pay me at all. I went to my boss and asked what I could do to assist them with getting back on track. My boss asked if I would take over billing as an additional part of my job. I agreed, but after several months, my boss had not given me the rights to the billing accounts. In January 2018, I decided that I could not work for free anymore. The company owed me $9,000 at the end of 2017. My boss came to me and asked if I would stay a little longer and that they were getting a loan to pay me back. Due to the nature of my profession, I could not just walk away from my clients. I agreed to stay a little longer until they paid me in full. They never received the loan to pay back what I was owed.
April of this year, I was finally done with the company. They still had not paid me from last year and they were currently $7,000 behind this year. I started to do some research on why the company wasn’t getting paid by the insurance companies and I found out that the company wasn’t operating legally anymore and were unable to bill for their services. After speaking with a lawyer, there wasn’t much I could do because the company was completely broke and the owners themselves were broke. I was told I could sue, but I would probably never see any money that was owed to me.
I am currently applying for jobs, but unfortunately have not been hired as of yet. The bills are starting to back up and my credit cards are running very low on availability. I am asking for any assistance that you could give. It would mean the world to me to get my life back together.
