Hello all. Guess I should give a quick rundown of what has landed me in this position, but first I want to say that it is not easy for me to have to ask for help at all… There’s this thing called PRIDE that gets in the way. To be honest, my pride is so strong that it has been ALMOST A FULL YEAR now that I have not had electricity. Winter is here again and I do not have any way to stay warm. I have to cook outside on a makeshift grill and that limits my choices greatly on what to eat.
The home I live in is very old and not insulated well at all anymore. (My grandparents had this it built sometime around 1917)
Anyway, I moved back in to take care of my daddy after my marriage fell apart. He passed away here at home 4 years ago and my daughter and I stayed living here where my daddy, my auntie, my brother and sister, my daughter and myself had all grown up in. My siblings want to bulldoze the house down because it’s rundown and “an eyesore” to them but I just can’t see it happening & they couldn’t care less.
Well last year my daughter got married and now lives in her own home with her husband and baby boy.
The 3 of us decided to rent out 2 rooms of my house to keep me from living alone out here in the country. Both “renters” (one a friend of my daughter, the other related to her husband by marriage) turned out to be deadbeats after a few months and stopped paying rent ($200 a month each) at all. Lost their jobs and all. Therefore when the $183.00 electric bill came they of course did not have their part and it got cut off. The only company we can get electricity through where I live is that one company because it is a Co-op and they own the lines. So, that being the case, they can do whatever & charge whatever they want. Now I’m stuck without power because that $183.00 bill is now going to be $583.87 to get turned back on. They charge a $75.00 disconnect fee (since they have to push a button there at the office, ya know). Then they tack on a $100.00 re-connect fee because they have to push that button at the office again. Then they charge you a fee (that varies I’ve noticed from person to person) they refer to as “a new membership fee”. .. and that is how I ended up here, without power for 10.5 months now and finally trying to swallow my pride and ask for help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Bless you all, not just the people who can help me out.
