Grand rising to whomever reads our story,
We are seeking financial assistance due to our recent unfortunate event. At the beginning of this June we leased a vehicle. It was a Hyundai Sonata. Unfortunately we were unaware of the recent trend on TikTok that showed a tutorial of how to easily steal KIA’s and Hyundai’s. We only would have the car for 3 weeks unbeknownst that it would be stolen right from in front of our apartment. We immediately made a police report and notified insurance. Insurance instructed us to notify the bank so that they can activate the GPS tracker and find the car.
A few days later we were contacted by police saying they found the car about 5 blocks away and that we could come and recover it. When we got to the car it was unrecognizable. We actually didn’t believe it was ours until the officer matched the VIN number off the driver door and the report. The wheels had been switched out, the driver side door handle was broken off; keeping the door from closing. The car was full of hardware tools that the vandals left. There was a serious leak coming from the engine which made the car start weird and the engine light was on. At that moment we knew they would total the car out.
Since the dealership was only around the corner from where we recovered the car, we immediately took it there to see what the options were. The salesman that handled our purchase said that everything would be an easy fix and we should be back on the road, he also assured us that even if they deemed the car totaled it would be paid in full and we’d even get a check to put down on a new vehicle. Being that we were leasing the car, full coverage insurance was necessary to drive off the lot. It was comforting to know that the car would be paid in full due to us also accepting GAP insurance with the bank that approved the car loan.
During the time period of waiting for the police to track down the car, we had to use Uber and Lyft to get to work. Spending about $40-$50 a day to get to work and back, with the insurance only reimbursing $10 a day. We had no idea that the insurance company did not offer rental cars for situations like these, lessons learned about not researching insurance companies most definitely. Thinking it would only be for a few weeks that we’d have to go through this, we still tried to wait it out. When the insurance deemed the car a total loss we thought for sure the costly rides to and from work would be over but then came another snag.
Around the time we found out the car was totaled, the bill due date for insurance was approaching, we’d have to pay $294 to keep the insurance on to ensure the car would still be covered and paid for, on top of rent and other things like phone bills, electric, and wi-fi that were due at the time. Thinking that everything would be settled and we’d be in a new car sooner than later, we waited another couple of weeks. The car note due date is approaching and we still do not even have the car, but the bank is still expecting a payment which didn’t make sense at all, why pay for something we’re not even using let alone even have in our possession. After having paid the rent which was extremely late due to the financial burden of Uber and Lyft, funds became low and getting to work became harder and harder.
In a nutshell, to anyone willing to give a helping hand we are graciously asking for $2,000 just to help get a car and get current on our bills and rent it would help Tremendously and be a HUGE blessing. If you made it to the end, thank you for taking your time to read our story and humbly ask any way you can help would be very, VERY much appreciated. I did see that this website wants us to use PayPal as a form to receive a donation, unfortunately we don’t have an account with PayPal.
