Hello all! We are the Schnieber Family.
We moved from Texas to New York last winter to help out my wife’s teenage nephews escape from a questionable neighborhood in the Bronx and try to better their lives. This has extended an ever-increasing financial burden upon us. We come to you humbly asking for your help to assist us. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
When we moved to New York in February 2018 we were both having a hard time finding employment. Despite getting my masters degree in social work last summer I discovered Albany’s job market for social workers was saturated. Several times I thought about changing careers path but after spending so much time to obtain my degree and already being in so much debt I felt that something would eventually come up. I was able to find occasional temporary work but nothing noteworthy. Another financial setback that I had was multiple medical problems including severe shingles, and tearing my foot from a severe sports injury that left me unable to walk without the aide of crutches for over a month and unable to stay on my feet for an extended period of time. My wife eventually found a job at the airport but this required her to commute all the way to NYC, a full three hour commute away. This placed a lot of distress on our marriage so she eventually decided to quit.
My wife and I have gone through many financial challenges on the road towards a brighter future. We accumulated nearly $200,000 in combined student loan debt in order to get me through my masters and my wife nearly done with her bachelor’s degree. We also incurred over $20,000 in credit card debt as a direct result multiple setbacks (medical, unemployment, etc.). Our cat had over $1,000 in medical expenses due complications from a bladder infection that required x-rays and other procedures.
Although I am grateful about recently receiving gainful employment working to help children with autism, this is not enough to mitigate the overwhelming amount of debt we have amassed.
My wife’s dream has always been to adopt and we feel that it is our calling to do so. However, our friends and family have helped come to the realization that we shouldn’t continue with the adoption process until we clear most of our debt. This financial burden has resulted in my wife and I having chest pain, hair loss, and other medical issues. Clearly this would also affect the new addition to our family.
Note:Upon request you can also send your gifts directly to our creditors if that’s preferred.
Considering the amount of debt we wanted to take care of and the limited My wife is working on a budgeting/financial app (the envelope system) that is going to be an all-in-one system for Android and Iphone. This app is estimated to be completed by March 2019 or sooner. It will have everything from budgeting, debt tracker, and loan/mileage/tip calculator, amongst other features. She decided she wanted to make an app that had everything she need it all in one place.
A link to download this app will be sent to everyone that helps us with any size donation they can as a form of gratitude for everything y’all are helping us with. We can’t be any more grateful. Thank you so much for taking the time to want to know more about us and helping us thru this hard time. Anything helps, even if it is just sharing this with your family and friends.
May God bless you and your family for many years to come.
The Schnieber Family.
