My name is Matthew, I am a recent college graduate and performer at Disneyland. A little over a year ago I was homeless and living out of my car in Los Angeles, and I was very fortunate to land a job auditioning at Disneyland and started to make enough money to rent a room in a house.
I graduated from college with a Philosophy degree, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue my passion as an actor. I worked many different restaurant jobs and worked really hard and took a lot of classes, but I quickly ran out of savings, and without support from my family, I ended up living out of my car.
I am very grateful for the blessings that have happened since then in my life. I started my job at Disney, started attending church regularly, and have been planning to take coding classes so that I can one day have a more stable, higher paying job to support myself.
Unfortunately, very recently, I injured my ankle rehearsing for a film project and I have had difficulty doing my job. I have been asked by a doctor to go through a physical therapy program to rehabilitate my ankle, but I cannot afford it. Because this injury occurred outside of work I am not able to receive compensation or benefits from my employer. My other option if physical therapy is unsuccessful would be surgery. On top of that, I have $30,000 in Student Loan Debt, $15,000 in Credit Card debt that I racked up while surviving in LA. And right now, my injury is keeping me from working consistently and I am in danger of being released from my job if I continue to be unable to perform.
I haven’t been able to start the coding classes I want to take because I cannot afford them, and I don’t want to use credit and put myself in more debt. I hate asking for money because I truly want to get out of the situation I’m in and find a way out on my own, but I am at the point where I feel like I need to swallow my pride and see if there’s anyone out there who would be willing to help.
Here is what I am asking for:
$30,000 for College Student Loans
$15,000 for Debt
$10,000 for Physical Therapy
$15,000 for an accredited Coding bootcamp that will quickly give me the skills I need to be self sufficient.
I know that this may seem like a lot, and at this point, anything helps. I just need to get out of debt and start making better choices with money, and teaching myself how to invest and save what I have so that I can be prepared when something like this happens again.
If you have it in your heart to give anything, I would really appreciate it.
