I am a citizen of Kazakhstan. Because incomes in Kazakhstan are low, many of us went to work in Russia. I’m one of those expats.
In Russia I’ve met a beautiful girl named Polina. We’ve been dating for two years. We’ve adopted two cats and had plans for a marriage. I’d been working as a welder for three years, it was a stable job and I was offered a promotion. Polina works as a primary school teacher. We had a stable and quiet life till 24 of February, 2022.
After 24 of February it became dangerous to stay in Russia. Putin’s regime is more and more unstable. The laws became more anti-human. History shows that It’s only beginning. There is a mobilization in Russia already. When does Russia close its borders? When do current soldiers, losers in the pointless war, become criminals? I am worried sick about Polina’s safety. Like me, she doesn’t support this absolutely causeless invasion, there is a real risk to go to jail for that opinion.
As a citizen of Kazakhstan and thanks to Ukranian friends I get a job and a visa in Poland. After some time I’ll go there to work. My girlfriend does her best to encourage me, though separation for an indefinite period is barely bearable for both of us. She also wants to relocate, but now we don’t have financial ability.
My plan is to find a job for Polina and apply for a visa in Poland. It’s the fastest way to relocate, but It requires investments. Also, we need money in case of emergency. The situation is unpredictable and requires a rapid response. If the Russian government decade to close borders, Polina will have to evacuate. We’ve already packed an alarm case.
I don’t feel sorry for myself and wait for a miracle, I was infected by varicela zoster during collection of documents for a visa and it didn’t stop me for a day. My temperature was 38C degrees when I went to get my passport back. I’m sure I’ll have money to get her out, but I’m afraid I may not have enough time.
You can suggest moving to Kazakhstan. This is not possible for 3 reasons. I won’t be able to work for one year, because military service in Kazakhstan is obligatory. Polina has no documents to work in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is a small economy and convulsions of Russian economy have a negative impact on the well-being of the population of Kazakhstan.
Thank you so much for considering us
