We are currently renting a very nice home in an adorable neighborhood at an affordable price. It’s small but everything we need and we are very happy here. We moved in 2 years ago with the intent to save money to buy a home but baby number 5 slowed our plans. Childcare was going to be so high for 3 little ones. It wasn’t worth it to work. I absolutely love being home with my children but it has left us living paycheck to paycheck. We were ok with this and were ok to just keep renting until our babies got a little older but our landlord just notified us that they are ready to sell. We would like to buy it because it is affordable for us at our current income level and as I said we love it but we aren’t ready and they are not willing to wait. We will qualify for first time homebuyer help for down payment but we need a little bump on our credit score and to lower debt quickly to qualify with a lender. We have 10,000 in total debt aside from one vehicle payment which we can manage just fine. My husband has taken a second job and I’m working as much as I can doing odd jobs. But it will not get us there fast enough. If we can’t buy this house, our only affordable option would be an apartment or a home in a bad neighborhood. To not have a yard or a safe place to play would be so hard on the kids. I’m not even sure if places would rent to a couple with 5 children. I just don’t know where we could go that would hold us in reasonable comfort. This house was a rare rental property both in location and price. It has ended up being a wonderful place to call home and we would be so grateful to stay. We have the sweetest neighbors. Everyone looks out for each other. It’s a place where the kids can ride their bikes and play with friends.
This is such a neat concept. People helping people. I’ve never heard of it before now. I can’t believe someone would just see our situation and help us. It feels weird to even ask. But I am. And our current circumstances will not last forever. We will continue this charity when our time comes.
