Please help me put my family back together!
My husband is 800 miles and several states away from me, our almost 8 week old and 10 year old daughters. We became homeless earlier this year after being kicked out of our rental for reporting the landlord to the city for unsafe living conditions that we begged him to correct. After exhausting all of our funds on application and admin fees for apartments, we were forced to pay for motels, weekly. This became expensive extremely fast and we were unable to keep paying. We reached out to every agency in the county and even those in neighboring counties. There’s no help.
Due to a culmination of things, my husband ended up on a bus to where his parents live. They scrounged together the $258 for the ticket and he was off while we went to stay with my mom in her one bedroom apartment. The manager was told by corporate that we can no longer stay here so we are now facing being on the street.
It has been beyond difficult being separated. I was and still am recovering from a rough C-section. Combine that with a colicky newborn and no help and you get one tired, super overwhelmed mom and a super sad, helpless new dad that can’t do anything but offer words of comfort and encouragement over the phone at 3 AM while he listens to both his wife and newborn daughter cry. My 10 year old has been such a trooper through all of this. Her birthday was in September and due to the current circumstances at the time, she was not able to have a party or get gifts. Her response was, “I already have the perfect gift. Love.” If love could buy stuff, we’d be rich enough to get what we need, that’s for sure.
What we have in Texas:
A place for a few more days
What we have there with my husband:
We both have jobs; he starts Tuesday and I start as soon as I can get there!
Insurance that even covers out daughter’s expensive $38 a can formula.
Bottom line, we need help getting airfare and Lyft from the airport.
Total cost for tickets is $310 and Lyft will be $220.
We would be willing to pay you back in small payments.
Please help us put our family back together. This year has taken so much from us but we have learned that what matters the most isn’t all of the belongings in our storage unit, it’s our family.
