Honestly, I never imagined I would be dealing with a situation like this, but here I am. I am a father of two wonderful children, and only want the best for them. At this time, I am unfortunately unable to give them that.
My significant other and I have both fallen on hard financial times. In September, I was involved in a wreck and sustained injuries to my back, neck, and shoulder. I ended up feeling forced to resign from my job after placing my priorities on my family. This resulted in a massive loss to our income and set us back, but we were able to push through. I immediately began looking for a law firm that could help me receive the treatment and therapy I needed. I have had several injections to my shoulder, neck, and lower back, but have received no relief. The doctors are now recommending that I get shoulder surgery that I will be unable to afford at a steep $8500.
While I was out of work and being treated for my injuries, my significant other continued to work for as long as she could. She eventually became ill and was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, and suffered severe anemia attacks which eventually lead to her needing blood transfusions. After this hospitalization, she was placed on short term disability. She continued being treated for her anemia, receiving several iron transfusions. She was continually told that she could not return to work until she received medical clearance. When she finally got that clearance from her doctor, her employer told her that she needed a work release form filled out and signed by the doctor. They continuously said that the file was “too big to fax” or that they “did not have the correct fax number”. The run around continued, until she received a letter in the mail stating that her short term disability benefits had ended due to her being terminated. She lost her job and didn’t even know it until more than a month had already passed.
We have used up any savings we had making sure that rent and bills have been paid, but now we have run out of options. She has applied for unemployment benefits, but there is no telling how long it will be before she hears something. I have also applied for disability benefits, as I have had no relief from any treatments given and do not see myself being capable of returning to work. I am also awaiting word on my settlement, but have received little information on when to expect that. I am honestly just trying to make sure that we have enough to cover our rent and bills until something happens… And even then, I still hate having to ask.
