Hello, I desperately need your help. I’m in a challenging situation. After helping someone out, I find I need help. Recently, I allowed one of my granddaughters, her three children, ages 8, 12, and 17, and their dog, a Chihuahua named Olivia (her sister could only put up with the dog for two days and then told her sister (the granddaughter staying with me) to come get it before she let it run away; it never stops barking), to move in with me. She lost her apartment because she complained too much about things not getting fixed and needed a place to stay until she could get on her feet while she looked for a place to live. Without regard to my living situation, even though I’m retired and living on a small, fixed income, as I said, I took them in; I couldn’t see them living out in the cold on the street.
My seventy-five-year-old, invalid sister lives with me. I don’t want to put her in a nursing home, not until we can no longer take care of her at home. Her daughter also lives in the house and cares for her mother. Now, bills piled up in my meager home with seven people and a nervous dog that barks incessantly.
I forgot what it was like to have kids in the house. They argued and fought daily, leaving TVs and lights on. I constantly had to tell them, “Close the door. I’m not trying to heat all outside.”
My granddaughter is a hard worker (she truly is). She saved every penny she made for eight weeks so they could move out. During the time they stayed with me, I had to provide food for everyone, including the nervously barking Olivia. Everyone took showers after showers and did laundry, not the kids; they acted as if they didn’t know how to wash dishes or load a dishwasher, which ran daily.
I mostly stayed in my room to avoid the chaos. I only considered my bills once they moved out. I have shutoff notices from the electric company ($687) and a water shutoff notice from the city. As water goes flushing, the toilet uses the most water ($382). And to add insult to injury, my dryer is broken ($699) to replace it.
So please, I would greatly appreciate it if you could help. I want to thank everyone who helps. And if I ever get in the position, I will surely pass it on.
