Back in April my previous employer stopped paying its employees and ended up going out of business. They owe me $4,000 and I have put in a claim with the department of labor. They reviewed my case and ruled in my favor. However they told me they also have 26 other employees with claims against the business and because my employer went out of business there are very little assess the state can go after to split among the 27 people involved in this case and it is unlikely I will get the $4,000 they owe me. I put the claim in in April and still nothing. The department of labor has taken all the steps they can to get my employer to pay, but they are not cooperating. Now the department of labor is going to “docket and assessment” according to the most recent letter I got. (I’m not entirely sure what that means). I don’t expect to see any of this money anytime soon or ever. And if I do get paid, I doubt it will be the full $4,000. And throughout this entire experience I also went through a break up with someone with which I was in a relationship for 4 years and had been living together. I had to move and ended up paying rent for two apartments for one month because I could not break my other lease early. After not being paid from my last employer and having to find a new job, thus being unemployed for two weeks, and having to move and pay double rent for a month I ended up with a credit card bill of around $8,000. Now I have another job and have been working to pay down my bill. With a little help from my parents and aggressively putting money from my paychecks to the credit card bill I have gotten the balance down to $2,900. I really need some help to finish off this debt. I’m at a point now where I can only put about $100 from each paycheck towards my debt, which would take me over a year to pay off at that rate. Any help would be great. Thank you so much!
