When me, my husband and our 10yr old son bought our house from HUD it was basically gutted. The previous owner was a crack head that ripped out everything, including a supporting wall. We knew it looked like a lot of work, but my hubby has mad skills and so we moved in, unaware of just how much work this money pit was going to be. We spent Our life savings and three nights on a wood floor without electricity and running water. It was only after getting those going did we discover that the leach field was messed up and the pipes that went out to the septic were crushed because the last owner drove over them to park in the back. We also found that it needed a new roof and that the roof trusses were threatening to collapse. A few days ago we discovered something that brought us to our knees in the basement. We had been noticing the caulking in the bathroom and living room cracking as if that side of the house was moving and low and behold it was. The house is sinking on that side. The water table had been so high for so long and the stacked rock that holds up the basement had shifted and was in fact sinking. My husband and I have the skills to do most things ourselves and we have managed so far but not this, this takes professionals. The estimate we got to dig out the foundation all the way around the house and down, put in a lining, fill it in, dig out the old sub pump system and piping, build forms, pour concrete to sure up the walls and line them was about $35,000. Then there’s paying off the personal loan($2,561) we took out for the septic and leach field, and the Home Depot card ($4,726) we have been using to buy wood, sheet rock and supplies. We have paid most of the personal loan, some of the Home Depot But the basement, we are at a loss. And now my husband goes to see the surgeon tomorrow to discuss the real possibility of a fifth back surgery. He has had three lower back surgeries and a cervical fusion. Me, myself have been told I need to have lesions on my left ovary removed and another foot surgery. I have been told I have a bulging disc in my neck but its not herniated.(feels like it with intense nerve pain) We can’t be down at the same time. When you have a very curious special needs child you cant be broken very long cause he needs you. This is what we do, rehab houses. We just don’t know how much longer we can keep it up. We are out of money and running out of time and hope. We are just barely swinging our basic bills and food now. We could really use help getting out from under this high interest loan, home depot and $35,000 to put this house back up on level ground. ($42,287 total) Thank You for your kindness.
