I am a 28-year-old son of my father, who has eight children. My dad, who is up in his 60’s, now has diabetes. Generally, my dad was healthy and therefore working, so I never had to intervene. Until recently, his health rapidly declined due to a cut that went very south, causing the hospital to cut his leg off. Out of 8 kids, two of us work, my younger sister and myself, and we do our hardest to supply the situation financially, but it is hard when I only work check to check. I am currently enlisted, and the mental health and family advocacy are a blessed asset to have, but the situation is starting to creep on me harder than the assistance they can provide. Due to my being deployed, I sent extra money home, but now that I am returning home, the support on my end will stop, and my father now has no means to make money. The responsibility to provide a prosthetic leg, health insurance, food, rent, and care will now fall on myself and my younger sibling. As a member of the arm forces, I am embarrassed to put a GOFund me on my social media, not to mention it goes against the united states code of military justice, which I can be punished for and lose the little income I have to help which I don’t want to risk. I don’t have a bill to post, and I don’t know the amount that will help. I feel helpless and don’t know where else to turn. My dad lives in Trinidad and Tobago, and I’m the firstborn American child. And the curse of poverty has not been kind to my family, this is a plea to help me continue to provide care to dad. He always has put his children first, and please find it in your hearts to help me and support him for the time his health will allow his to remain on this earth. Thank you for the help.
