Greetings to all!
The past two years have been extremely rough for me, with respect to health and finances. I have tried my best to navigate the rugged terrain and stay the course, by working a fulltime job, and tutoring students. Despite my efforts, I am drowning in debt, and have hit a major roadblock. Actually, my current situation feels more like crash and burn. I without a means of transportation to work, and the bills are stacking up.
I am a mother of three and a grandmother of four who is legally married, and has been separated since 2011. I do not receive financial support from my estranged husband of seventeen years. Two of my children are teenagers, and my grandchildren are all under age ten.
I developed a second chronic condition for which I underwent treatment, and required unexpected surgery in August 2019. Having recent surgery resulted in time off from work, from August, until today. Having recent surgery prevented me from starting a new, full time job, as planned – missed opportunity for better pay and health benefits. I exhausted what little savings I had, while on medical leave of absence, as well as the disability insurance that did not cover living expenses. Out of financial desperation, and loss of my health benefits, (no way could I afford COBRA) I found a part time job and returned to work prematurely, against my surgeon’s orders.
While driving home from my new part time job, I was rear ended, while my vehicle was stopped. All freeway traffic was stopped. However, the person who hit me was driving too fast for traffic conditions, and could not stop in time to avoid hitting me. The person who hit me was uninsured.
To compound the surgery, time off of work and an auto accident, Progressive, my insurance company, deemed my vehicle a total loss, and will pay Ford Credit for the value of the vehicle which does not fully cover the outstanding loan amount. I did not have gap insurance, and am now facing a $6,000.00 balance with Ford Credit. Today is the day that I must return the rental car, furnished by Progressive. I do not have the credit score and downpayment required to purchase another vehicle from Ford Credit. I do not even have the credit score and downpayment required to purchase a vehicle from a non traditional auto dealership.
I have a full time job offer, with benefits. However, I have no way to get to work and a vehicle is required for this position. I really need this job, as I need income for survival. I need to get my head above water, to pay rent, utilities, and buy groceries. On a larger scale, I need to pay off my debts, including the recent bills for medical treatment and surgery. My children and grandchildren need a secure future, and I must build it for them.
I am seeking assistance with obtaining transportation. If anyone finds it in their heart to assist, I would be truly grateful and will pay it forward, when I am in a position to do so.
With deepest and heartfelt gratitude.
