I’m going to start by saying that I have two children that I care for and living at the northernmost point of the U.S, winter is especially rough physically and financially. I find myself in need of basic transportation after having to sell my vehicle to cover rent, food, clothes for my kids, fuel for the house, etc.
Recently, in their time of need, I had the opportunity to help two family members and their five children by giving to them at no cost another car I had bought and fixed myself even though I had also been struggling financially. I thought they needed it more than I did and it made me feel good to have provided means for them to get to work, the grocery store, and doctors appointments. I was able since then to purchase another car but bills were piling up so fast that I was forced to sell it. While I did receive money for selling my car, it only covered less than a full month’s expenses. That was several months ago and now I am walking to work daily in temperatures that drop well below freezing.
I can no longer keep up with bills. With nothing left to sell and in the middle of winter I need help to purchase a bicycle so that I may be able to travel to work and to the grocery store. That’s all I’d like to ask for. I am hoping to raise at least a small amount (anything helps) to purchase a bike to help me get the kids and I through winter and until I enlist into the Marine Corps where I intend to work very hard and earn a healthy income for my family.
I know riding a bike in winter seems odd, but it’s my only option. In the town I live, motorists are encouraged to share the road with bicyclists and throughout the winter, the roads are well kept and bare.
This week’s weather forecast makes me grateful that temperatures are not expected to fall below 0° as they have since November which will make for a safe three-mile trip to work.
A little about me,
I am in my mid-twenties and a highschool graduate. I’ve always had ambitions of attending college and serving in the Armed Forces. I have two children, one and eight years old. I enjoy spending time with my kids and in my spare time I like to build things and study whatever subject interests me at the time. Living in Maine has always been a struggle. I’ve been working since before I was legally allowed to in order to provide for my kids and have done so with a smile. Recently inflation has hit the state and things that were affordable simply are not while sustainable jobs are scarce and rarely within walking distance. I’ve always found a way to make all ends meet but I’m at my end trying to make it happen. At any rate, I will continue to make sure my kids are happy and warm while I find new ways to get through this hardship as I always have.
