Hello,
My name is Angela Whitfield and I am 49 years old. I was a single mother, who raised three children. And now I have two grandchildren. Born and raised in the poverty-stricken areas of Chicago, it was always a struggle for us. As a child, I was not cared for properly. We hardly ever went to school and never went to the dentist. Honestly, we were all abused and neglected and I had many cavities. I suffered in silence from the pain of the cavities, without meds because I couldn’t swallow the pills. Eventually, the rotten teeth would break apart and I’d be left with only the pieces still attached to the gum.
At age 19, I started to get dental work done. First, I had the rotten pieces pulled, then I got the remaining cavities filled. I even had to get a root canal on one, as the tooth was already dead. Never having enough money to get implants, I have lived with only being able to chew on one side. I thought I would just continue this way as I kind of got used to it. However, over the years, the missing teeth have caused problems. I have bone loss now. And in addition to not being able to have full use of my mouth, my face is deformed. I went for an implants consultation and the dentist advised that I would have to get braces first! I have had the braces on for over two years and soon they will be coming off.
The estimates I received for four implants were $17,000 and $12,000 and I have no idea how I am going to pay. Because I will need bone grafts the cost is much higher. I can only dream that I will be able to finish the much-needed dental work, as my finances have been stretched beyond belief. I imagine things will only get worse as I age. Which is why I am writing here. One could say that I am desperate but I would appreciate any help in financing this cause. Any amount will do as it all adds up. Nevertheless, I will keep on persevering as I have with everything. I thank you so much for your time.
