Hi, my family is trying to buy a decent used vehicle. We were (finally!) approved for financing, but only with a $5000 down-payment. We live on a month to month income from VA disability with no savings.
Our situation is rather urgent. My Husband is a disabled veteran with some serious health issues. He is still recovering from radiation he had to shrink a non-operable brain tumor. He suffers from multiple daily seizures, loss of coordination and diminished mental acuity. The tumor was caused by his exposure to depleted nuclear rounds during one of his deployments to the middle east. I dont work because I need to stay home to care for him and our 10 year old daughter. So we rely on his va disability for income. We also live in a very remote area in Maine on a long, private road and it happens to be VERY cold here right now. It simply isnt safe or feasible for us to live in our house with no car. We can only get to a grocery store if we can find a friend available to drive us, since our road is private, I have to walk my daughter half a mile daily to from the bus stop for school in any type of weather. I worry about there being any kind of emergency and no being able to get to help.
So far, we have been struggling to do the best we can with no car for 2 months now. In those 2 months, most of my time has been occupied online trying to find somewhere that would approve us for financing. No one would finance with no money down, and the reason was very upsetting to say the least. Back in August, my Husband was made aware that his oldest daughter had decided she didn’t want to car that my Husband had financed with her. She never told us and to credit union later told us that she seemed to simply not care, she wasn’t paying despite the credit union going above and beyond to try and help her with lower monthly payments. She literally told them ‘it wasn’t her problem’. We didn’t even know any of this until the day that car was repossessed, not only resulting in a lean on our house but Destroying my Husband’s credit. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I was told we were approved for financing, followed by the let down that I knew we couldn’t make the $5000 down payment required.
So after exploring every other avenue I could think of to get the down payment money, including dozens of denied personal loan applications, I came across this site. I am putting my faith in the good of people, and asking for your help. We will be forever thankful for anyone who can help, no matter the amount. We also plan to pay it forward, and be diligent to help others when we can, within our means.
