Hi, my name is Kamil, and I’m reaching out for help in a tough situation I find myself in. I’m 38 years old, living in Poland, and it’s just me and my beloved cat, who wandered into my life about 10 years ago. While I have a full-time job, I also have significant financial obligations, including supporting my elderly mother, who is retired and relies on me. Retirement pensions in Poland are shockingly low—barely enough to cover basic needs—so I do everything I can to help her.
I’m lucky to own a 2012 Ford Focus Combi with a 1.6 diesel engine, which I bought when I was in a better financial position. It has been a reliable companion for years, helping me earn extra income through evening and weekend gigs like delivering food via Uber Eats or working as a taxi driver. Unfortunately, after years of heavy use and minimal servicing, my car has broken down, and the cost of repairs is beyond what I can afford right now.
Here’s a breakdown of the $2,800 I need for repairs:
- Used gearbox: 2000–2500 PLN ($500–$620)
- Clutch and dual-mass flywheel replacement: 2000 PLN ($500)
- Complete brake set: 800 PLN ($200)
- Handbrake cable and repair: 800 PLN ($200)
- Oil leak repair: 500 PLN ($125)
- Timing belt replacement: 1000 PLN ($250)
- Labor costs: 3000 PLN ($750)
These repairs are essential to get the car back on the road and allow me to resume my side gigs, which are a vital part of my income. Without the car, I’m struggling to make ends meet.
Over the past months, I’ve been cutting back on expenses, selling off personal items like books, my vintage analog camera collection, and even my TV, tablet, and computer. However, I’m running out of things to sell. While I still have my motorcycle, the current winter season in Poland means there’s no interest in buying it, no calls whatsoever
Why Am I Asking for Help?
When things were better for me, I made it a point to give back. I donated 10% of my income to charity, supporting causes like Krakow’s homeless animal shelter, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP), and participating in charity events like MotoMikołaje (motorcyclists delivering toys to children’s hospitals) and the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (raising funds for men’s health). I organized fundraisers and donation drives for orphanages. Ages ago, when I used to live in UK i was supporting Cancer Research UK.
Now, I’m on the other side, humbly asking for your support. Whether it’s through a donation, sharing this post, or even helping me find remote work opportunities, anything you can do would mean the world to me.
