Hello, I’m 37 years old and since 2011 chronically ill, that’s 10 years now. I live from a minimum social benefit and there’s not much room to spend. The foremost concern is being able to keep a roof above my head and that put a lot of stress on me. I’m mostly housebound, I only leave when I have to, like groceries, doctor and occasionally on a good day (physical) taking out the dog to a forest so we both can enjoy a walk, I live alone and have no social life due illness so my dog is my best friend, my family, my everything.
This brings me to the current situation I’m in. When I fell ill I had a paid off car and some savings that I’ve been living off. My car, Toyota Corolla E12 hatchback, is 15 years old and has a structural problem, Every year I need to go to car inspection to get a Green Card and for 3 years now I spend money on repairs, but without luck. Three different car mechanics have tried and much has been replaced 2 times, yet the same problem keeps popping up and they can’t find the cause, I spend all my last money on it.
The second problem is that the underside and support arms are rusting. It’s not only unsafe but one year car inspection will disqualify the car for that. That would mean the car is done for it. I love that car, I would like to drive it forever but I need a new car. But I simply can’t afford a new car. Used cars might be cheaper but because of annual car inspection it’s a big risk. My first car was used but had to sell it after two years due already expensive repairs.
For two reason I need a car. First because of illness getting around is difficult, To buy groceries, I can’t carry much weight. In my current situation public transport is also not possible, and is very limited where I live. I barely leave the house and without a car I would never go out again.
The second reason is more important. My dog. When your dog gets sick you don’t have much time and need to rush to the veterinary. Most of time this happens a night and you need to go to animal hospital on duty. But without a car I can’t. Just the idea of your dog getting sick and not being able to treat him is heartbreaking. Any dog owner will understand this.
I feel desperate, a car is so important to me but I just can’t buy it any more.
For a new car I would need €10,000 – €14,000 (EURO) or $12,000$ – $16,500 (USD), Cars are a lot more expensive here. The cheapest car is Dacia. A very basic model that only includes the necessities, no front fog lights, manual key, no front window defrosting, no A/C, no parking sensors, no electric side mirrors adjustment, just the bare minimum,
My choice would be a Mazda 2 which is similar to my current car. It’s the best valued car on the market. You get a complete car, everything that a modern car need for €14,000, It’s the best deal.
Other reason are:
– Mazda is very reliable
– More trunk room and easier access for my dog
– Best value
A new car would make world of difference for me and my dog. It’s a lifesaver that will help me through the next 15 years. I expect the same life expectancy of 15 years or hopefully longer.
I know it’s a very big favour I’m asking, all small bits will help. This is the first time in my life asking for help, Because of illness I feel helpless, even if you want, you can’t go out and work for your dreams.
You can see my dog who is the main reason why I need a car. Without I feel helpless in case something happens to him.
Thank you for reading.
