Hi everyone! I hate to ask for money, but here I am. I am a full-time graduate student. Aside from classes I also have an internship that is 20 hours per week, along with working about 25 hours per week. My family has had a lot of unexpected bills this past year. My father had to take a leave from his job because he had a double bypass heart surgery then two months later had a prostatectomy. He worked a more physical job which he still has been unable to return to. There are four children in my family, three of us are in college and one is starting college next year. My family has always been generous in helping me out but I cannot turn to them right now because I know how tight funds are.
I’ve been having car troubles recently. The biggest thing I need to do right now is get four new tires because mine are all completely worn out. I commute to school and have a 25 minute drive to my job so I rely on my car heavily. I also have to drive my boyfriend back to his college in two weeks for his spring semester and round trip the drive is about 8 hours. I also need to get my brakes replaced – this is not as immediate of a need, but needs to be done in the next few months.
As I mentioned, I work about 25 hours a week making minimum wage however I work at a very small family owned restaurant. Because of this, we closed a lot during the month of December to celebrate the holidays. This was very nice as I got to spend time with my family, but awful for my paycheck. After paying for tuition and textbooks I have about $90 to my name which won’t even cover the cost of one tire.
I don’t want to ask for much, I feel ashamed I have to ask at all. But if anyone can spare a few dollars it would be incredibly helpful.
