At My Wit’s End: stuck with a dying 2014 Ford Focus

I am always accused of being too independent but I now have no other options, I am at my wit’s end! I bought a 2014 Ford Focus in 2019 with 18999 miles on it. It has run great up until July of this year with 60977 miles on it. I took it to the shop and had diagnostics run and they could not get the engine light to come on. I picked it up and it ran great for about 50 miles then the engine light came on and it would drop into neutral and sputter. I took it back to the shop they had it for two days they took the top control module and switched it with the bottom control module and could not get the engine light to come on. I picked up the car and it was fine for 75 miles. Then it continues, the engine light comes on with no notice it drops into neutral and wants to die. I called the shop in tears because I have turned into a nervous wreck driving this car, every time I think maybe it will be fine it starts to die again. The shop has ordered the part but due to manufacturing delays, the part is backordered for an unknown amount of time. Currently, the part has been on order for several weeks. I have spent nearly $800 on the car, and it is still giving me grief!

Part of the money I spent on the car was for a battery hoping that would help with the lack of power issue but it has barely made a difference. I live in Minneapolis and I cannot completely avoid the highways. It has made me afraid to drive, I only go where absolutely necessary and I still have to drive on the highway during rush hour to get to work. I owe $9500 on the car loan; I have tried to trade it in and can only get $3500 due to the uncertainty with the engine light going off/on and dying as it pleases. Trying to stay within the loan company’s criteria of under 150,000 miles with a loan-to-value ratio of no more than 110%, I cannot add $6000 to a car loan and stay within these criteria.

I can only hope to pay off the overage on my car loan or for an act of God to take out this car that does not harm me or anyone else. Any help to pay the $6000 on my car loan so I can trade in this disaster and feel safe driving before winter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and may God richly bless you.  paypal.me/ebaldwin65
